  1. Greetings,

    I have searched high and low for a spreadsheet or other data tool that shows vehicle and equipment (and, if possible, small arms) rarity values, preferrably for all three CM games, and preferrably by theatre with availability by month/year.

    Does something like this exist? Every single link I've found in the forum here, including the archives, is dead, which saddens me as I thought I'd found it numerous times.

    Alternately, if something like this is not available, is there anywhere online I can download the ASL rarity charts? I understand that they are quite accurate as well.

  2. Hi folks - I was an avid CMBO and CMBB player in the past, but have finally gotten around to cracking open the CMAK copy I purchased quite some time ago. After firing it up and playing a few of the "tiny" scenarios, giving the AI a play balance boost, and defeating it quite handily, I ran into "Clash of the Titans" and am having my arse handed to me quite regularly.

    Even though I know where the enemy tanks are headed, no matter what I try to do with flanking maneuvers, staying behind hills and popping up to fire, trying to stay hull down; none of it helps. Of course, the 50% advantage I have given to the allied AI doesn't help either, but I would like to think I can defeat a few extra Cruiser Mk Is.

    Any advice on how to defeat a superior armored force in wide open terrain? No combined arms here, just tanks.

  3. For those who found Battlefield 1942 disappointing, check out the Forgotten Hope mod. It takes steps in the right direction toward realism. A lot better than vanilla BF1942, but limited by the engine, of course.

  4. Greetings!

    I own the 7th edition of "Military Small Arms of the 20th Century," which is a very nice resource including most small arms used in World War II. However, one type of data it lacks and that I am interested in is the effective ranges of weapons used in WWII, especially the various submachine guns.

    Can someone direct me to an online source for such information, or point me in the right direction for an offline source? I would appreciate it!

  5. Hey, I was directed here by the fine folks over at the CMAK forum.

    I am trying to find information on how a dense material such as sand will be much less effective in stopping a panzerfaust round than spaced armor, and might actually be effective in assisting the round through focusing more energy into the main armor.

    I would prefer a primary source rather than an explanation. Can anyone assist? I am familiar with Herr Hoffbauer's work, and it is quite impressive. However, I have pulled up an old thread here (which I can't find at the moment) which indicated a general agreement that the way in which shaped charge weapons worked was affected by dense material between the standoff point of activation and the target armor in such a way that it could actually increase the penetration of said armor.

    I haven't been around for a long while, I see that things are still going well around here smile.gif

    I do have a question though. After moving several times, I seem to have misplaced my manual. It isn't a big deal, since I've read it several times, but the keyboard quick reference buried somewhere in the middle of it is useful, since I have forgotten how to access help in game. Has anyone made a handy printable keyboard shortcut file?

    I know, I should just pay the $5 or whatever it is to buy a new manual. But it would be nice to be able to print out the quick reference guide electronically regardless.

  9. The 6th Panzergrenadier's version of Lili Marlene gets my vote. Not only historical, but very stirring.

    I always enjoy tunes sung by the armed forces accompanied by military bands.

    (On a side note, can anyone direct me to a site that has similar samples from the French military? I heard one airborne company singing a song on Bastille Day and I will only recognize it as the one I am looking for if I hear it.)

    I had taken a hiatus from gaming for a while, and just recently picked up CMBB, after truly enjoying CMBO a while back. I have noticed some strange behavior and wanted to find out if is a feature of CMBB, and if so, how to work with it (specifically in regards to the scenario I mentioned in the subject line).

    Spoilers follow, so feel free to stop reading if you have not played this scenario.

    I have attempted to play this scenario as the Soviets multiple times now. Every time, I seem to get slaughtered. I attempted to take four of my six platoons, locate them on the ridgeline by CONTACT and later SNEAK, have them provide covering fire, and send two platoons towards one of the two objectives (I have tried each, but I only go for one at a time) under that covering fire.

    Unfortunately, as soon as my troops pop their heads over the ridge, two HMGs open up on them and they drop, and start SNEAKing *towards* the woods just in front of the Germans in cover.

    Prior to the next turn I tell the men to hold their ground and fire, but after one shot they go to ground again and start sneaking toward the enemy.

    So, instead of setting up on the ridgeline and pouring suppressing fire into enemy positions, or sneaking back a few meters into cover, the troops crawl mindlessly to their deaths.

    Any attempt to rush the positions ends up in a nice trail of eliminated units heading towards them.

    Am I doing something wrong? How do I keep my units from crawling blindly to their deaths? Should I be rushing towards the center of the map and the cover the woods provide, under fire of both HMG's?

    I have searched regarding this and found messages over a year old, which seem to indicate some sort of debate happened, so I am curious as to what the outcome was of that debate.

Can someone point me in the right direction for this? Or has it gone away?

  12. Two simple stories about incredibly lucky recon:

    First, in a small quick battle against Abbott. Abbott runs his 251/9 HT right into a nest of Brits. Over two full turns, his HT (most sitting still) manages to kill one of my Piat teams while avoiding (yes, I counted) 13 Piat rounds from 3 separate teams, two of which were at point-blank range, 8 2-inch mortar rounds fired from a mortar in LOS, 2 Firefly rounds, and various machine guns/small arms. Finally, my third Firefly round got him. I was beginning to think the Brits had hit their sherry early that day.

    Next, the lucky jeep MG. My little jeep, on a recon mission, decides to halt for an entire turn in LOS of a Humongous-owned quad 20mm flak cannon. I didn't count how many rounds missed him, but since he was sitting still for the ENTIRE turn, I figure it was a lot. He finally died early on in the next turn, but I still can't figure out why he didn't MOVE, and how that flak cannon could possibly miss so many times.

  13. I'm downloading the files as we speak, however, I have a question, and forgive me if you've answered it already (and I'm just being dense).

    If I install the GRU 1.0 mod, and then Tiger or someone else makes a new vehicle mod, will it look 'funny' or different because you haven't tweaked it? Or did you not touch the vehicles at all? Regardless of whether or not you tweaked other people's vehicle mods, what exactly is in the huge vehicle zip? Are they other people's vehicle mods?

    I'm curious to know which mods you picked, as there have been several good Panther, Tiger, and King Tiger mods.

  14. Thank you, everyone, I appreciate it. Where would I go for artillery information, especially regarding the Allies? (I am assuming I can find the German info in my new book)

    Abbott, would you mean the flank which just decimated an entire company+ of my infantry? The Brits thought this was World War I again.
