  1. There is a small, but perhaps significant, number of Voodoo3 owners that are having major problems running CM. See "Memory Leaks?" and "Voodoo3/PC Strangeness" in the Technical section of the forum. If you have an AGP slot just get a Geforce MX. I think they're less than $150 US. Twice the video ram and 32 bit color too, not to mention a little bit faster.

  2. I'm running Win98 original edition, Voodoo3 3000 retail, latest approved drivers, DX7.0a, PIII 733 with Tyan Trinity 400 mobo, Soundblaster Live! Value, latest drivers, ViewSonic monitor.

The game works fine when I pop in my Geforce 256.

  3. All my 3D graphics get severely corrupted during the playback phase. Over the course of 10-20 seconds the entire screen turns white except for the interface. There is no crash or lockup, just total video corruption. I can save at that point, quit and relaunch the game and all is fine until the next "movie" phase.

I'm using the latest official drivers from 3Dfx (WHQL 1.05). My card is not overclocked, and all settings are at 3Dfx default. I seem to have no problem with other software. Is anyone else experiencing this?

  4. I would like people to reread the first 7 lines of Deanco's first post to this thread. Here we have a general strategy gamer who enjoys CM. This is a great thing!

    He said:

    "Hi everyone,

As a newcomer to this forum, and as a person who is not a WWII buff, and as a person who in the past hated wargames because of the poor graphics, I'd like to say that the reason I hang out here is because I think CM is a great strategy game, perhaps one of the greatest ever. For me it's a game, full of strategic possibilities, a fun game. The fact that it takes place in WWII is cool in and of itself, but it's not the coolest part of it by a long shot."

These are the type of newbies that can really make the sales figures for CM take off, something BTS and all the old timers would love to see. Gamers like Deanco should be VIPs on this forum. I think the main CM forum should cater to the Deanco's of the world.

There are four sections to the CM forum. Why not add a fifth for scholarly discussion of wargame development and general grognard issues. The "old" forum could coexist with the "new" that way. I would call the new section something like "Grognards only, please".

I've been following this forum since April of last year. I miss the "old" forum too, but the new forum is inevitable since the game is out and it is beneficial to BTS and newbies and therefore all of us. Let's have our cake and eat it too! Who wants to see a "Grognard" section added to the forum?

  5. Yes, one of the great hardware mysteries. I've heard leave it at 64MB, and half your RAM, and now wide open. You know, I haven't had any problems or noticed any difference trying any of those things. The video shadowing in the BIOS is a different story. I get better performance with it set to OFF.

  6. I dunno PanzerLeader. I think something like that would be too involved to program. Either a defensive arc or an engagement range would probably be easier, although I'm no programmer.

They've got something for us in 1.03. Hopefully that will solve the problem. I just want to keep this up top until it's fixed because I really think the game would be significantly better than it already is if this issue was adequately addressed.

  7. If you want your slow turreted Tigers to keep their guns toward threatening enemy armor instead of traversing 180* to take out harmless, shaken crews of abandoned/knocked out vehicles you probably should post here. I will be putting this thread at the top once each night, if necessary, so you might as well post to it. There are only two ways this thread will ever disappear:

    1) The problem is solved or at least greatly reduced.

    2)BTS locks it up.

  8. Hey, could be a good idea there. Player controlled engagement ranges similar to TacOps. Standing orders passed to the troops before hostilities begin. How well the orders are obeyed could depend on unit experience. There would probably need to be several different unit types that the engagement range could be set for in order to solve the problem. That could get a little hairy for Charles. It might be worth exploring however. Are you there Charles?
