  1. There SHOULD be a comparison between CM and ToW. There seems to be too little command and control compared to CM. Surely it wouldn't be too much to ask for the 'advance to contanct', or 'move' or 'fast move' commands? My tanks if left unmanaged (which with lots of tanks is hard to keep up), they wander all over the place, getting shot up in their flanks.

  2. Never mind crashing - mines fine for that - was this thing playtested? Tanks wander all over the place preseneting broadsides. When I give command to stay still , the tanks move off whenever they like. Not to mention the old CM bug of turning a tank to face INFANTRY and getting wasted by tanks at their rear. If this game was CM in realtime it would be awesome, but there is too little control. CM move commands in realtime would kill everthing on the market. I guess they had to move away from CM.

  3. Hi,

Been a while since I've been here, so hello to all.

I remember when CMBB came out there was some commotion about US and European versions and censorship due to the sensibilities of our German friends.

I am intent on purchasing the CMAK/CMBB bundle, though if I do this online, will I be getting the European version due to my purchase details (UK located)?

I know it's a minor point, but if at all possible I would prefer to get the uncensored version out of principle.

    Thanks.

  4. As this post started as more of a statement than a discussion thread, I will attempt to turn it into one.

Are the Waffen SS troops in CMBB still hampsters? That is to say - are they still as useful as a handbrake on a canoe?

I think BTS anticipated hordes of W-SS loving 'grogs' swarming the battle field with legions of elite political soldiers, and did something about it. I can't say what they did, but W-SS in CMBO really suck. Is this still the case?

They did get together. I think the result was Poland? Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm not trying to get political!

This thread has a whif of Peng about it!

Ahem, on tho the subject in hand. Reversing into buildings for cover - yes. Driving through them willy-nilly - no. Far too easy to break something useful on the tank.

As a more realistic compromise, I think it would have been nice to be able to drive over rubble at least. Then you could drop a building with HE and roll over the remains. I think that there's still a great possibility of throwing a track, and this would probably have to be modelled for the sake of realism.

  6. Joshik, you posted just before I did. I was just commenting on your absence. I thought you had received CMBB!

Thanks for the new title smile.gif , I shall wear it with pride. I think I have pretty much every mod out there...

Anyway, your schedule looks great. I'm certainly not going to try to coerce an artiste such as yourself into another routine.

Thank goodness these gems have been saved from the scrapheap! Now if only I could finish building my time-machine and save some real German armour... ;)

  7. Joshik, please complete those mods!! I totally agree with Michlos - don't listen to Prinz Eugen!

I'll come clean and admit that I don't have CMBB yet - so I am bias. However, I fully intend to keep playing CMBO even when I do get CMBB - especially BoB scenarios.

Therefore, you're winter schemes are just the job!

Is that your 'old' PzV GL scheme I see under the new winter camo? A winter version of that gem would be marvellous. As for the other Panther, I think it is a great representation of a late war PzV G.

The KT looks great. I think I can see an element of Kittys' KT mod in there - me being a sad mod slut I would spot that. The details of the tools and towing wires are breathtaking. The weathered effect on the three-tone camo on the turret side is simply awesome (there, you've gone and made me use an Americanism).

There are not really that many KT mods out there, and I think that yours would be the best of the bunch - it is a fantastic representation of a BoB era KT.

Please don't make me beg Joshik...

  8. Well, all Panzer crews - especially during the early war years - all wore the Totenkopf symbol on their collars. So this is not surprising V.

Fernando, I am not really sure what you mean by your comment. Unlike the majority of all-German early war SS divisions like LAH and Das Reich (which wore the traditional SS runes on their collars) the Totenkopf division wore the Totenkopf. So it would seem that BTS decided to make their SS from the 3rd Division. Right?

The info on Panzer crews is accurate - all wore the totenkopf - even StuG crews, although they were officially attached to the Artillery Arm.

I think the totenkopf on W-SS troops is BTS' way of sidestepping the SS rune and swastika issue that some countries have.

As to why it is thought necessary to sanitise history is beyond me. When something becomes 'taboo' it instantly becomes more attractive and interesting to certain types of people. Probably the very types such censorship is meant to 'protect'.

Still, these rules are not something that BTS can do anything about...

  9. Nice little AAR.

You mean you didn't know the value of the mighty little Hetzer? :D

Relatively cheap, with well-sloped armour that is surprisingly resistant, and a not too shabby 75mm PaK 39 (L/48) gun. It is modelled pretty well IMHO, and Combat Mission does it the justice it deserves.

In Real Life , the Hetzer was more akin to Guderians' concept of a capable tank destroyer for use by infantry units than the larger, improvised Jagdpanzers. Used properly, it was effective, though it was surprisingly unpopular with its crews. Although well designed externally, it had even less traverse in its gun mounting than many other Panzerjaeger/StuGs. Apparently, the loader/gunner arrangement was somewhat akward also.

And as usual, it was too little too late...

Peter, I'm going to assume that you don't have Mike Duplessis' wonderful Nashorn mod, cause if you did, you wouldn't be asking for another ;)

As the comments say: "Full set with Mono, Bi, Tri-color and Winter Pattern textures for both Nashorn and Hummel. Impressive!"

Check out this page for the mod: Combat Mission HQ German Support Vehicles

It's about half way, to three-quarters down the page...

Do you mean you are going to change the tone of the khaki and earth brown on the camo'd version? I think it looks absolutely spot on as is. It has that faded and 'used' look that so many of the modsluts (including me) love.

Of course if that's not what you meant, then what I said anyway. The mod looks great!
