yep, it's happening... and it's easy to work around.
From one of my posts in the couple of thread running about this issue in the tech support forum:
I think that BTS made some kind of change in the shared files hidden under the public user with the new update. They had not done this with previous updates so it's a new thing. Perhaps something that anti-tampering routines in the older version of the game change back. That means that parallel installs will not work as perfectly as before.
I just copied the MG key to a text file and left it on my desktop. Whenever I change from 2.01 to 2.10, I just run the activation again. Luckily in my case I have only 1 'old' game going. The rest were either FI games or other players that updated right away so we just updated our games and went on under 2.10.

A unit localization, perhaps? I don't see it in the US store.

Thanks for the insight. The AppStore help desk didn't have as clear an understanding of the situation. It's too bad as the only review is a negative one (similar to the one that I might have left if I had only played a couple of games without seeing that it's a game of countering opponent's deployments and not really a traditional 'move your mice' type RTS). I had wanted to clear that up.

Hi-
I grabbed one of the promotional codes last week and got a fee copy of the game. After fiddling with it for a few days I decided to rate the app and write a review. Unfortunately I cannot as the App Store is telling me that I can't rate the game because "to rate this item you must own it."
I sent a note to customer support as I found that I have a valid iTunes invoice for the game (wit the price listed as Free) and just wanted to comment on my experiences. The App Store CS says that they can't do anything but that I should kick it back to the devs (you)... SO, any ideas?

I was one of the lucky winners over the 4th... And I have to say that I didn't really get the "like chess with machine guns" line until I had played a few games. In fact after the first couple I was pretty annoyed that I could not really control my units after deployment. It took a few games to really get that the strategy of the game was to deploy for locations and power-ups and counter-deploy the enemy deployments and then not worry about where my units went after that.
If I had paid for the game I might have been tempted to write a crabby review at the app store about the weird controls without really understanding what the goals were. It would have been my bad, but might have cost you ratings and sales.
If you had a demo version with, say, the first two US battles (the tutorial battles) it might help those hapless players like me who want to start grabbing their units after deployment see how the game works. By now I'm not addicted but when I'm with pad and have a few minutes I reach for Assault Wave (and keep the sound up annoying my wife).

Thank you very much! The download is running now...

7/8 games going right now. THat's about par for me. One of my regular opponents will not believe that there is a MAC version... either that or he just doesn't care.

My battalion of Shermans at 3-400m being cut down by a platoon of Tigers would disagree...

I think it's fairly obvious what happened. We can see the German casualties in the first building. I'm thinking they had very high motivation. High enough that their spirits guided the hand of the gunner and opened holes in the roofs for the rocket to pass through.

Arrived in Northern California after a late April order date.
-
Nice, though it would have been interesting to move in on the German positions during the AAR screen to see the carnage.

Use Flashget. It helped me immensely. Went from 60kbs to 1.7mBt.... and then leave it running for a few hours.... And then uninstall Flashget. It has a dodgy history. Versions of it have included spyware and once even a trojan. The current version is good, so you can use it to help get the game downloaded, but I would not trust it long term.

Check the readme, you can adjust the res options but you have to edit a file... Not sure about scaling the UI (maybe it'll scale if you embiggen the default font?).
From the readme online:
CHANGING GAME RESOLUTION:
By default, the first time the game is launched, the games internal resolution and refresh rate are set to whatever your desktop display is currently set to. We have added two ways to make adjustments to this settings.
From inside the game, go to the Main Menu, then select the Options panel. From there you can select the game to run at the following resolutions:
Desktop = (the game will run at whatever resolution your desktop is set to)
1024x768
1152x864
1280x960
If you want to run the game in a resolution and refresh rate not listed, you can manually configure these settings by editing the "display size.txt" file located in your game directory. Simply change the numbers that you see there with the width (in pixels) and height (in pixels) and refresh rate (in Hertz) you wish to run the game.
Example: For 1440x900 at 75Hz refresh rate, you would delete the numbers in that file and replace with "1440 900 75" (without quotes).
If you put in all zeroes example: 0 0 0, the game will revert to using your desktop resolution and refresh rate.
Exercise caution and only use a resolution and refresh rate supported by your monitor as damage to your monitor or display adaptor could occur, especially if you use too high a setting.

Agreed - one of the sleaziest, obscurant and down right irritating sites I have visited in ages.
Not the sort of site I would normally have associated Battlefront with.
I get the feeling that might have sprung early or there were problems prepping it as you are right, BTS (I know, I know... can't stop thinking of them that way even though it's been a decade) would normally use that POS service. Seems like it was done late night in the US (but before office hrs in Europe) and the only services open that would take the file sight unseen was that file factory site. That's why a couple of us got together last night and got a couple torrents working. That was the best stopgap possible as there were plenty of would be refresh monkeys available to seed overnight.
-
Good job, everyone. We have a good number of seeds going and my upload rate has finally slowed to a sedate 10mbt. Looks like someone else created a direct download mirror so that should help too. I'm going to bed but will keep my seed running through the day (unless BTS wants it gone... just let me know in an email and i'll kill the torrent).
'night all...
-
Hope so, but remember that the scope of CMBO was MUCH greater than that of the new game ... So hopefully we get some of the scarier cats in later installments.
-
Er... look at the other thread
-
We need more seeders, if anyone is in contact with anyone already lost in the demo get em on the seed.
Excellent advice... IF anyone already has the demo downloaded, could you please grab the torrent and point it at your DL so we can distribute the load better? If not I might have to reset and limit to only a few peers to try to get some more seeds going.
We'll get it figured out....
-
Should be pretty good once we get a couple more seeds up... My connection is getting hammered right now as you might guess, and except for the guy in Japan, no one is getting great speed... Who knew 20 mbt was too slow?!?!
-
Damn, the refresh monkeys are keyed up... It took me about 30 secs after posting to get the torrent going and connected to the file and I had a line of peers formed already!
-
Hey all, chrisl created a Mac torrent and I created one for the PC to get us through this slow download time. I'll be seeding at least overnight. The PC one should be pretty quick as I am giving it 15mbt. The MAC line should speed up as more peers get onboard... Please keep your torrent sessions open as long as possible to balance the load
Mac: http://home.pacbell.net/cacahill/CM_Battle_for_Normandy_DEMO.dmg.torrent
PC: http://home.pacbell.net/cacahill/CM_Battle_for_Normandy_PC_Demo.torrent
Good luck, hope this works out and we don't get in trouble.
-
Gimme a sec... I'll start a new thread.
-
Great... can you post the .torrent file somewhere so we can grab it? If you don't have webspace, I can host it at lest overnight. You can email it to me at rockdawg @ gmail.com (remove the spaces).

Try PublicBitTorrent. Check http://publicbt.com/ for info on how to add a tracker. That page also tells how to add the openbittorrent tracker.

No, the activations are limited to the number of machines you are installed on, not the number of times you activate on the same machine (at least that has been my experience over the last couple of days and how I read the knowledge base articles).
