Combat Mission on Linux?

Recommended Posts

If you're using VMWare or WINE on Linux yourself you could try out the Gold Demo and see how it responds. Typically the Demo should be a good indictator as to how well the full version will respond to the environment. However, since the full version may be a tad slower than the demo - the speed of the demo in the emulator may not be an absolute indication of the full version's performance.

You're going to need quite a bit of memory to run CM under either of the Win-emulators though. I'd recommend at least 256Mb and preferably more. Large scenarios in the full version of CM could easily demand more memory under the emulators. There could also be issues with DirectX, your hardware (sound and video) and the particular version of the Win-emulator that you're using. Updates to an emulator and the drivers it uses can cause possible problems with CM.

CMBO will not be updated for any problems that you may see. It has been finalized and no further updates are foreseen at this point since BTS is working full-throttle on CM2 (CMBB). I'm not aware of any intentional coding efforts to make CM2 work with any of the emulators. So it is up to the emulators to provide the appropriate support for DirectX.

You may want to check out the support pages on the emulator you're considering and see what kind of DirectX gaming issues exist. Check for any issues with intense 3D games that utilize DirectX for a possible indication of some of the issues you may run into.
