IRUNSAMOK
Ever since CMBO came out I've wanted a command like 'Covering fire for X amount of time then stop'. Well, I just figured out how to do that in CM2. When you plan your area fires add a pause to the firing unit, then plot a movement order on the spot they are already sitting on, and add a cover arc to the move point. Your squad will fire until the pause runs out, reorg, and then cease fire. I have found this helpful when assaulting the hedgerows if you time it right, your men will stop firing just as your maneuver teams reaches the next hedge. It's a good way to save ammo and minimize FF casualties. I wonder if it works in CMSF...

You can compose very elegant choreographies that way.
IRUNSAMOK
Whoops, guess I missed it. LOL, I've played CMSF since it came out and I thought I had made a brilliant and insightful observation that would win me great fame and recognition.
Fetchez la Vache
Well, you'll still get plenty of thanks from all the people who didn't know about it - not everyone is a CMSF master. And well done done for spotting this (and taking the time to post about it) yourself. Cheers.
Wego McPbem
That is a cool tip. I knew you could do stuff like that with waypoints but for some reason never thought of plotting the waypoint on the spot the squad was already sitting. Good stuff.

Sergei
Another thing to know is that if you have a squad assaulting a building or other location, you can give them an area target to their destination - this will pin any possible defenders down and they will automatically cancel that target when they get there (and engage the enemies if there are any present). And if you give a mid-waypoint (maybe with a 5 sec pause) prior to entering the building, they are more than likely to throw grenades inside first.

Oh now that is cool - I'll have to try that.
Agua
Thanks Sergei. This is the kind of info that folks need to copy and paste to a separate document. I used to do that with CMBO. Too old now.

I can see that it is going to take forever to really discover all the possible tricks in this game and master them...but it should be an interesting journey. gunnergoz
Yes, so many little touches and nuances...makes me tear up in joy (sniff, sniff.) Really, I can't believe the amount of hidden details and capabilities in this game. It is truly sick as the kids say today.
Michael Emrys
It is truly sick as the kids say today. Is that what they say? I feel alienated by the generation gap again, and this time I'm on the wrong side of it. Michael
