Briefings are full of typos.. does it matter?

"It does raise the question as to whether you wish that everyone should spell English in their own way - or that we should tend towards a correct spelling"

Quite right, the Yanks should learn to spell. There is a "u" in "Armour" for a start and, by the way, they should also note that the subject is Mathematics (note the plural) therefore the diminutive should not be "Math", it should be "Maths".

Never understood how the American spelling came to be. Did someone around 1750-odd suddenly go "My hand holding the quill crampeth something terrible, I'm going to leave out the "U's" from now on" ...

I'm going to leave out the "U's" from now on" ...

In their patriotic fervor, they found themselves talking about their new country so much that they didn't have enough Us for use in other words when setting the typeface. They also had to use f instead of s in many places for the same reason.

This is a well known historic fact. In the run up to the actual revolution, our British Hegemonic Masters notified the colonies that "His Britannic Majesty will henceforth increase the taxes we levy upon you." Unfortunately, this notification was read aloud at various street corners, as was the practice of the times. This led to the confusion. As the herald read it, what was heard was, "His Britannic Majesty will henceforth increase the taxes we levy upon 'U'." Immediately, all patriotic typesetters stopped using the letter 'u' whenever they could.

Obviously it's not a game breaker - but my personal opinion is that spelling mistakes reflect badly on a product . It could suggest a lack of care and possibly undermine a player's confidence in a scenario designer.

Just out of curiosity - did someone at BF check all the briefings before full release?

Comments welcome... am I alone in my thinking?

I agree, it does reflect badly on QA. It smacks of a "rush" job and makes me wonder what else was swept under the rug.

Lint, definately Lint....oh and some stuff from the Peng thread, you would never believe what my fellow Cesspoolians leave behind.

Why? The wind source in that scenario is SW, not NE. And it's not just the briefing. If you click the Conditions button, it says the same.

Then perhaps we have a bigger problem than just an error in the briefing? I checked again last night before posting and the smoke for me was definitely blowing in the opposite (incorrect) direction. Just to double check, this is the School of Hard Knocks scenario, the second in the Courage and Fortitude campaign.

I'm going to check again, just in case I've done something stupid and will try to post screenies.
