Activation Error

Nevada

Recommended Posts

Seems either the activation servers are not ready or Ive experienced the first bug. Installed the product fine, at the end it asked for my license key which I provided, it then asked me to reboot which I did. When I hit the shortcut to start the game it displayed Play or Buy, so I clicked Play, it then asked for the activation license again which I provided, which was then met with a license server error. I tried it once more, same problem but now I am out of activations according to the game? Ive not even been in game yet :D Need my activations reset and hopefully an idea why the server is not accepting licenses. I even went into control panel to see if eLicense would allow me to give back an activation but its not even listed there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sent an email as well.

This product is not using eLicense. :) It is using our new Online Activation System.

It sounds like everything went right the first time regarding installation and activation. The problem seems to start with the reboot. I am not sure why it would ask you that since rebooting isn't normally required after installation.

The ensuing license server error occurs probably because the first activation in fact worked. So there shouldn't be any need to reactivate at all, and the eror occurs when the licensing server attempts to activate a game that is already active. Or something like that.

It sounds like the original problem has to do with that reboot, which is unusual, and it isn't tied to the licensing as such. Please go to www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and click on Submit Ticket (unless you sent the email you mentioned to support@battlefront.com or something like that already, in which case there is already a ticket there).

Will do Martin,

But I am sure it asked for the system to be rebooted, the window came up right at the finish of the product. Ive all the other Battlefront games, always installed pretty flawlessly. This is the first one Ive had problems licensing. Cant even start the game, each time I hit the shortcut I am given the option to PLAY GAME or BUY GAME so obviously I choose to play :D Thats when the license box comes up again asking for auto or manual licensing. Hitting manual gets you nowhere it seems, the box just disappears. I dont wish this on others, but Im hoping Im not the only one who ends up having a problem.

I believe your right on the initial license entry after the installation, it did accept it as I read each prompt. I was a bit puzzled though why it was asking to have the system rebooted, and it was in the same box stating the license was accepted. Reboot later, and its still asking for the license key. Well now its not, I guess I went through all 3 thinking it was a server error. Sent a ticket in, hopefully they can offer some help, was really looking forward to this series version.

Take care, will let you know what it was.

Actually, I am pretty sure that's not possible :) The content of the box stating that the license is accepted is coded to show only a few very specific things, and rebooting isn't one of them.

I am pretty sure that whatever the problem is that you're having is not related to the activation system at all.

You say that "its still asking for the license key. Well now its not". That, too, isn't any coded behavior. Do you mean that when you launch the game, the "Play Now" "Buy Now" screen isn't coming up?

That wouldn't be entirely surprising, since you probably activated the game correctly. I think you're having compatibility issues with running the game itself. Usually the first thing that launches is the auto-updater and perhaps there is some problem with that at the moment since we're technically before the official release date.

Did you try to run options.exe? Does that open?

Hi Martin,

Trust me, I am VERY sure it asked me to reboot, but lets see what other preorders come up with. When I say "now its not" I meant simply after attempting to get the game started I must of went through all my activations, as it now states I've exceeded activations. I take it you have 3 which would be about right, the initial after install, and one thinking it was part of the activation process after ahem....reboot to ask for it again, and once trying to activate it manually to no avail.

It never actually has gone beyond the splash screen that states Play Now or Buy Now. Hitting options.exe takes me to the same splash screen. Lets say that no reboot was required, the installation was finished either way, yet a reboot shouldnt have had any bearing on starting the game correct? I know as you stated that it did accept the first activation attempt, where things when awry is when I attempted to start the game after ahem, the phantom reboot request :D No at the moment Ive never made it past the same splash screen with Play Now and Buy Now. I was tempted in uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but I feel it would be moot at this point having exhausted all my activations. The strange thing is, say it has shown Ive activated the product, but for whatever reason its not activated the game. Each additional activation attempt should not have counted, but apparently they have since I am out of activations. :D

Its a strange problem, but hopefully when everyone else begins to install we might see a pattern. I certainly hope not for their sake, but being at the moment the only person with the problem........a little person inside with horns hopes they do. :D

Hmm... ok. We have a couple of leads as to what may be happening. It may be a Windows permissions problem with the install inside the Program Files folder. This can lead to strange results like this. No idea (yet) why this would be happening, but that's not important for now.

For a possible quick workaround try this:

- uninstall the game

- reinstall the game, but make sure to choose Custom installation, and specify a different path than the default (i.e. do NOT install inside C:\Program Files, but in some other folder, e.g. MyDocuments or something like that)

There is a chance that this will get you up and running if what I suspect may be happening is true.

That also crossed my mind Martin, regarding the Programs Files Folder. Ive since installed it out of the drive entirely but again Ive used up all my activations. In my defense, I had thought when re-entering it, that the server was simple busy, hence the ill informed repeated attempts which I dont advise anyone else doing :) Learn from the fish in front of you people, first few fish get eaten by the shark, I suggest not following. :)

I believe the service folks are working on my lost activations which is a great testament to the Battlefront company as a whole. Not many are up this late at night still answering trouble tickets. You were right however Martin, when I uninstalled and reinstalled to another directory, it did not ask me to reboot, not sure where that came from. In the big picture it didnt make a difference either way but at least you can take that out of the equation. Now if I can juuuuuusssst get into the game, I just want to peak at the terrain and then go to sleep.............honest. :)

After install i activated game and it ran ok, then i closed game. Then i tried to start it once more and it comes up with activation screen again. Did'nt get any reboot messages during all this though.

Hi guys,

ok, even if that workaround didn't work out, it's still gives us some additional useful info.

I have attached a possible hotfix to this thread. It's a ZIP file. Inside the ZIP file is a HIDDEN .ini file. Please copy that .ini file into your game root directory, overwriting the file that is already present.

You will have to enabled display of hidden/system files for Windows in order to do this probably (you can disable that later after you copied the file).

Now please launch the option.exe. Let me know how it goes.

Just got my game going again, if you double click Korea icon as normal then you get the activation screen come up again, if you right click Korea icon then run as administrator then game runs again, try that guys.

Thanks for trying but the run as administrator does not work:confused:

That's weird because D:/Games (where you said you had it installed) isn't a UAC protected folder usually, so the admin setting shouldn't really be relevant at all.

This is a bit odd then mrsoul, i've just tried it for a second time and mine works. If i double click Korea icon then the first window that comes up is that Play or Buy window, if i click on Play then activation screen comes up again. If i right click on the Korea icon and run as administrator then the window that appears is the one with Update and Play buttons, i click on Play button and game starts up. My os is Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

Yes Moon my game is in C:\Games\Battlefront dir (right from first install) and what i've written above is whats happening

PS. Running as admin should not be required to make this work. Unlike our previous eLicense system, the new activation system does not need "Run as admin" privileges, usually. And I don't think that TOW3 requires it, either.

Oh nice, Im working, mrsoul make sure you right click the korea.exe or shortcut and choose properties, then pick the compatibility tab. You will see two places to place a check mark, then hit apply. It placed me directly into the game. Thank you Martin, that at least gets it up an running. Any chance we can recoup the lost activations? I know one is used as of now, but it would be nice to install this on my faster desktop.

Well done thank you

Yes Martin, I used the hotfix, but while attempting to start the game it went to the same Play Now or Buy Now screen. Only after I placed the .exe to RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR was I able to get past it and into the games normal start up. A screen offering to update, then finally to start and enter the game. The hotfix file alone did not solve the problem.

You got the game running by "running as admin" too then Nevada?

Just read your text properly again Nevada, you have got to see the terrain then before bed :)

Thats the only thing that worked for me yes. Indeed, almost moved a few units as well. North Korean 1st Armored Brigade was about to put some hurt down on I Corps down in Pusan. Very nice indeed.

mrsoul, try this, find the games shortcut on your desktop and put the shortcut under RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR and hit APPLY. This should start you okay.
