Wargame99
I have a video problem with the demo. My Diamond Stealth II G460 AGP has 8MB ram and I can run the demo once. When I go in again I seem to have a host of problems. I loose the mouse, I then escape, get the mouse back enter the game and in new games and saved ones I get all kinds of video distortions and many things are now "negative". following the posts of others I checked out my mouse I use the MS wheel mouse. My system is a 3rd party system by Axis systems. It's a 300 MHZ pentium 2 with 128 MB ram. The first time I tried it worked nicely with no problems, other than trasparentcy problems. Any suggestions? Should I be looking into another video card. I think I have the latest drivers for this. If I where to purchase a new card I'm looking for something under $150.00. If I can get the demo to work, I purchase the full product. Thanks! Mark
Fred
Hi Mark! 1. If you have a customized mouse cursor, disable it and activate the default cursor. 2. If you have kind of a "special" mouse driver, try the default driver 3. Make sure Directx 7.0a is installed 4. Get the latest drivers for your video card 5. Do not let any other programs (tools, tasks) run while playing CM (virus scanner, un-instaler, etc.) 6. Avoid switching back to the Windows desktop via the ESC key. 7. Set your desktop resolution to the same resolution (with 16-bit color depth) as CM 8. Buy a new video card... Fred
Wargame99
Thanks for the help Fred. I still seem to have the problem that I can play once with an install and then it seems like it's corrupted. If I restart the game it sits there and after a time I'll check windows and it notes the game isn't responding. I tried the mouse suggeston also, updated the drivers from diamond and so on. Any further suggestions? I'm nearly ready to buy a video card. Any suggestions for $150.00 and less for an AGP if this doesn't work? Thanks! Bertram
You could try to get the old Voodoo3 3000, should go for about $100. It has 16 Mb of RAM (I believe). It is the one I use (on a PII/400), and is good for the smaller scenario's (with all options on, res. 1200x1000), a bit stuttering with the large ones. An alternative option is a plain OEM TNT2 card. Should go for even less, and has 32 Mb. Looks not as good (in my opinion) but should be able to handle larger scenario's (and higher framerates if you play Quake or UT). Fred
Before starting CM again, delete the prefs file in the CM directory. This file stores the info about your video settings. Wargame99
Thanks for the help guys. After much frustration I went down to the local computer store and purchased a 32 MB OEM TNT2 card as suggested. The game works fine and the graphic detail is so much better than what I had seen before! What is really cool the CPU can now offload more to the video card so my system resources went way up.
