vincere
Are the purely aesthetic or do they provide protection? Likewise do they give a +2 rating to morale? I believe that Allies seriously looked at whether they provided protection and the overwhelming answer was overwhelmingly no. The advice was not to have sandbags on vehicles because there was wear and tear concerns. But commanders let it go because soldiers felt safer. The moreal side. Becomes an issue after being hit by something big- the truth about sandbags is there then.

Not so much.
vincere
Yep. If I was in a tank I'd be filling sandbags too whatever came down from above. I wonder if it helped with lower calibre rounds and HE.
panzermartin
Well if side mesh armor can help with heat, I don't see why sandbags cant do the same for Pzshrecks, Pzfaust etc..

Woa, I'm really rusty on this one. Some brass not being too happy about fuel consumption going up rings a bell.
