Tournament mini-AAR – Sandy versus Epic

Recommended Posts

We are playing simulataneous mirrored games

Global Status in Feb 1942 of the game with Epic as Axis game

The early war went fairly conventionally; Poland, Denmark, Norway and the Low Countries were conquered in record time with minimal losses by Germany. Yugoslavia was also easily conquered although Greece remains neutral, leaning only very slightly towards the Allied cause.

All Europe from the North Cape to the Spanish and Greek borders is ruled by the Axis, except Malta which is bombed severely and regularly, although a Royal Navy presence still remains.

Rommel has conquered the North African shoreline and sits in Alexandria, building up to attack O’Connor in Cairo, while Iraqi traitors rule Bagdad on behalf of the Axis. An Indian corps sits outside the city, too weak to storm in and restore legal British rule. Italian forces still rule in East Africa, but are inactive at present.

Barbarossa started a little late and has made poor progress. Bad weather played a major part in this, and now the Eastern Front, runs from just outside Leningrad, the outskirts of Smolensk, west of Kharkov and Rostov, to the besieged fortress of Sevastopol.

Any lack of German progress in Russia is made up for by their Eastern allies. Japan made excellent progress in China from 1939, and the Chinese have recently capitulated. Following a surprise attack on Pearl Harbour which sank the entire US fleet there, the Japanese Empire now includes Thailand, Burma, Malaya, Hong Kong, and Brunei. India has been invaded and Dimapur taken.

The Phillipines and US possessions such as Wake have been conquered in a well-planned and executed Blitz, and current fighting in the Pacific now focuses on the DEI, where Batavia is besieged and probably soon to fall, and the Solomons, where the Japanese have taken Buin, although US forces defend Kukum.

WW2 is at the Hinge of Fate!

AAR Sandy Axis in Feb 1942

(NB Refers to other AAR, read that one first)

Situation is broadly similar with the fate of the WW2 still in the balance.

German progress is similar, but slightly more advanced; Smolensk has fallen and German paratroops are surrounded and out of supply in Maikop, but otherwise the Eastern front is similar.

In Africa the Axis has made better progress, with Cairo taken and fighting near Khartoum. Iraq is solidly held by the Axis, and Syria has juts been conquered.

Japanese progress is less good: the Phillipines , Borneo and Brunei still resist Imperial forces, and although Burma is conquered, India has not been invaded (yet).

July 1942 – War Office, London

Sandy Axis - Epic Allies

Cigar Prime Minster? The situation is becoming critical, our defence of the UK remains strong but the war will be decided in other places. The Royal Navy controls the Atlantic and most of their Atlantic Navy rests at the bottom of the sea but we paid a price for this. In North Africa we have been pushed back all the way to Nairobi, only the South Africans can stop the Italians now, Khartoum holds but not for long. Malta has fallen and our only foothold in the Med is Gibraltar.

In the Pacific, Borne and New Guinea still hold out, Australia is defended, but the Japanese together with a strong Italian navy have destroyed our Pacific fleet. The Japanese have broken into India, our Empire is shrinking. The Chinese still hold deep in West but not for long, the troops are not match for the upgraded Japanese armour.

The Americans put a determined resistance in the Philippines to no avail, but the suspected raid on Pearl Harbour did not materialise so the US Navy is in good shape, we will need them!

Stalin implores us to take action in the West, Leningrad has just fallen, Hitler’s attention has turned towards Moscow, Kharkov has fallen, and the Germans are massing around Kursk. Stiff Russian resistance at Rostov has bought them some time in the South. Stalingrad’s defences are being prepared, lets hope it becomes the Wehrmacht’s graveyard! German Infantry and Air Power is strong, only the new Russian T-34 tank provides any kind of answer to Stalin’s problems, lets hope they can make them fast enough!

The US must put pressure on the Japanese soon as we cannot slow their advance alone, the US and Russian ambassadors await you next door to discuss matters further…we will not surrender!

July 1942 –Berghof, somewhere in Bavaria, OKW briefing

Epic Axis - Sandy Allies

Sorry to disturb you mein Fuhrer, the briefing is about to begin. Our forces have taken minimal losses to date, Western Europe is firmly under our control, Great Britain holds out alone, the Royal Navy rules the Atlantic, but our naval forces are yet to test their will to fight.

Our progress initially in Russia was slow the enemy put up a stiff resistance but our forces are in good shape, the Summer offensive goes well, Leningrad, Kirsk, Kharkov and Rostov have now fallen, the enemy has built up huge fortifications around Moscow, here they will try to bleed us dry. Egypt is also now ours after a bloody struggle, but the enemy still fights on, it will take some time to clear them out! Malta is still a thorn in our side, enemy ships harass our supply convoys.

Our technology is inferior to our enemies, only our panzers reign supreme on the battle field, our scientists may need some re-education to encourage them…

Our Japanese Allies have made significant progress, China has been pacified and an expeditionary force probes towards the Central Asia republics and Pacific Russia, they have broken out of Burma and taken cities in East India. The raid on Pearl Harbour destroyed all Naval units, and most of the Pacific islands are now under Japanese control only New Guinea hold outs, but the Americans and British are yet to reveal where they will strike back, we must be vigilant.

The briefing on your next offensive plans will begin shortly ..…
