Jollyguy
The Russians leave their trenchlines in the Caucusses and take out a German level three tank and two armies. In Turkey a german tank, the leading unit, is destroyed, but in general the Allies fall back. In the Med the RN and USN reduce the Gibralter port and flood into the Med, while Casablanca falls after aircraft carriers support a landing. Asia is all Japanese. This is where I think I could do much better next game, as Colin is benefitting from my poor Chinese defense. Regardless of how this one turns out I want one more go as Allies before I take Colin on with me as Axis. I've got enough seasoning under my belt now to give a better showing, although perhaps I'll do an Axis game now, and then when this first game is done he'll go Axis again. Still discovering nuances to this game like crazy.
Colin I
WEST We brace for Allied invasion of Med. He is coming faster than I expected, but hopefully not fast enough..... MIDDLE EAST Major conflict as the Axis squeeze the Caucasus from Turkey, Iraq and Russia. Two Russian armour, a fighter, an army and a corps plus a British armoured unit are eliminated - mostly by TAC air and Tiger tanks. Italian and Japanese navies bombard in the Black Sea and also around Egypt and southern Iraq. In Russia, Sevastopol, Maikop and Vologda fall to the Germans. EAST Japan advances on Russian and British Indian possessions and contribute strategic bombing to Russian misery.

Colin I
No, the lead IJN battleship is just South of Suez. Poor grammar on my part. Does lead to interesting potential Naval conflict around the Med.....
Colin I
WEST Allies continue to invade the Med in some force. MIDDLE EAST Turkish army killed but Russian paratroopers are destroyed. Germans reinforce their Tigers and grind South in the Caucausus. Japanese bomb into this region and attack Allied air force which is present in Western India in some force - think their supply cannot be that good though. EAST Japanese take 2 Soviet cities and are now eyeballing British troops in India.

Colin I
General JollyGuyovitch's command vehicle was snowbound so no turn yet. Basically Japanese and Germans try to carve up Russia and Middle East before the US gets land forces into play. Have to say, Japanese long range strategic bombing into Russia is deadly in terms of disrupting communications. More to come....
Colin I
WEST His navy continues into the Med and takes Vichy Algeria. American transports head for Suez. Some partisan control in Western Russia. Tunisia declare for the Axis. MIDDLE EAST Squeeze continues with Russian army and corps destroyed by Tigers. One UK Allied corps also destroyed. Japanese carriers harass British HQ. EAST Japanese run riot. I think his whole fleet is in the Med so there are few limits. Also, several more Soviet cities fall including Vladivostok. I think JG might save Suez but bear in mind its taking massive resources to do this and the Japanese really only have any opposition in India as a result of the US carriers floating West. Colin I
WEST Med is abuzz with Allied ships looking for places to land. He takes Tunisia only though. I'm sure he can get ashore but Axis have garrisoned well including fortifying Rome. Axis bombs a weak cruiser off Marseilles. In Russia Leningrad is assaulted and partisans dealt with though more appear. MIDDLE EAST Bad weather in Caucasus but still the Tigers advance. Japanese carriers and Axis minors destroy the HQ holding Aman. Axis bomb a British battleship off Syria. EAST Japan nibbles away at the Russian cheese. Some more island hopping, including situation where Allies loaded an amphibious vessel only to have Japanese amphibious unit bump into it, land take the port and destroy the Allied unit. Colin I
WEST Leningrad falls. W. Allies swarm the Med still, but no major assaults except Tripoli and he retreats from the Eastern Med. MIDDLE EAST Assault continues with Tblisi falling and Zhukov staring at 88 mm tank guns. German paratroopers take Kuwait and land troops enter Amman. EAST Japan takes 2 more Eastern Soviet cities and squares up to the British in India.
Colin I
WEST Germans seriously chase partisans. Real infestation. MIDDLE EAST Winding down - Caucasus are Axis and, though it took 4 L4 tanks, we finally nail the Russian general. Luftwaffe starts to attack USN in Med. EAST Big fight building in India. Russian opposition building against various Japanese probes into the motherland.
Colin I
WEST Allied fleet very active in the Med around Italy and North Africa - German air sinks a weak Destroyer. More partisan trouble in Russia. MIDDLE EAST Iraq liberated. Tigers head South. EAST Fight escalates in India, both sides lose an army or similar but Allied armour killed from the air. Allied transport probes off Russian islands.

Colin I
WEST Jollyguy continues to bombard in the Med. Italian engineer feels picked on. MIDDLE EAST Iran nearly liberated. EAST Russians counter Japanese very effectively though Japanese long-ranged bombers have some bite. India is crumbling for the Allies with 2 corps and a Special Forces destroyed, only Lahore to go. Polynesia taken.
jon_j_rambo
Rambo - got your turn - but still on 1.03 with Jollyguy. Can I safely upgrade or do I need to wait for JG game to finish. 1.03 and 1.04 do not mix. Like yourself, I have 1.03 games currently going, along with 1.04. What I did was "copy & paste" the current Strategic Command folder, thus having two folders. Once copying, I applied the 1.04 patch to the new folder. Colin I
WEST Allies eliminate an Italian engineer and invade Scicily. MIDDLE EAST For some reason Iran does not get liberated - is it now part of Russia? EAST Japan advances on Lahore, India may well be 2 turns from surrender. Russians continue to repel Japanese troops.
Colin I
WEST Allies hold Sicily but Axis sink two battleships from the air. MIDDLE EAST Its Axis except for North Africa. EAST Japanese under pressure in Southern Russia but British India surrenders.
Colin I
WEST Very quiet - even his Med navy has moved East. Germans show increased interest in Russia and have L5 armour so there is trouble on the way. MIDDLE EAST Allies show some interest, landing around Suez. EAST Russians continue against Japan, this will slow down soon as he has to face German armour and poor supply into Japan. Broadly, Europe, half Middle East, Western Russia and all of non-Russian Asia plus most of Oceana plus Peru are Axis. UK, Med, central Russia, Africa, North and South America and Egypt are Allied (plus a foothold in Sicily). Allies have best Navy but IJN is undefeated. Axis have had a lot of excess MPP for a long time and very few unit losses (exception - Kriegmarine was demolished and Japan took some hits from Russia) so its going to have to be spectacular from the US. Colin I
MED Allied carriers kill an Axis cruiser and bomber but lose a battleship. Tobruk will fall next turn. RUSSIA Germans get rolling and take 2 cities including Moscow. Main Russian armour pulls back from fighting Japan. The rest is pretty quiet. JG seems to concentrate his forces so many theatres are inactive.
Jollyguy
At first I was hitting the Italian cruiser in port and not meting out much damage, then I realized I had my carrier set to fighters. The follow-up carriers sank the cruiser fairly easily, but I wasted at least two hits that could have been diverted to a another Axis unit. Such is the fog of war. So the lesson is to carefully plan your carrier movements and attacks, and set to tactical accordingly. Btw, advanced carriers set to fighters and auto do very well in providing air cover against unescorted tactical and strategic bombers, while naval tactical from carriers is simply deadly against ships, even BB's and even if in port. And my sense is that subs can't dive while in port, so if you can catch them there it's an easy kill. So carriers are the true King of the seas, as tanks are on land in this game. In a game I have going w/Rambo both our carriers have simply waxed the others surface ships that didn't have fighter air cover. I would say you need combined arms on the sea just the same as on land. On sea even the Allies, against an opponent who likes a big navy, would be smart to have some cheap subs and damaged units screening his main force. Colin I
WEST JG is pulling his navy and some US ground troops out of the Med. Italians pursue sinking a battleship. He takes Tobruk. RUSSIA Japanese LR bombers show Russians are massing for a last stand in central USSR. Germans take it a bit slow but now own Gorky too. Germans have Russian rail network moving. Now the Russian armour has moved North Japanese move forwards once more. EGYPT Confrontation building. Apparently Saudi cannot be attacked. REST Not much action.
