vireo
Hi, I would like to network locally a '98 Powerbook G3 Series with a Dell laptop in order to play two-player CM games. How easy is this and what would it entail? Thank you, Brendan

Schrullenhaft
You'll need an ethernet adapter for each laptop (10 or 10/100Base T). There are a variety of manufacturers out there for them (I can't recall if the PowerBook has a built-in RJ-45 port). You'll then need to get a specially wired cable called a "cross-over cable" that is wired so that two computers can be directly connected to each other (otherwise a hub would be needed). A decently stocked computer store should have such a cable (though there will probably be a limited selection of lengths available). Both computers will need to be setup with TCP/IP for the network card. IP addresses can then be assigned (you'll want to make sure that they are similar addresses such as 192.168.90.2 & 192.168.90.3 for example) and a generic subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for both. There will be no DNS or Gateway settings for this simple network. With this setup, you should be able to launch CM and go head-to-head over TCP/IP.
