dtaylor
Going back through some old games and wanted to try to play CMBB on a new machine. CMBB will not play on vista. Any suggestions on way to make it work or why it will not work? Thanks
Guest
What sorts of problems are you having when you say it won't play?

Schrullenhaft
Does your copy of CMBB use eLicense ? If it does, then you may be running into some issues involving eLicense and administrative-level rights on your OS. Does the game install at all or does this not even happen ? Have you right-clicked on the installer and selected "Run as administrator" from the popup menu ? Even if you have administrative-level rights on your user account, this may be necessary. After installing, you may run into other issues of DEP (Data Execution Prevention), UAC (User Account Control) and possibly interference from anti-virus/internet-security programs. The CMBB/CMAK 1.04 patches fix a particular bug in the DirectX 10/11 drivers offered by some video cards. It upgrades some of the DirectX code used in the game to be a bit more compliant with newer versions of DirectX and the drivers that support it. However, newer drivers from some of the major video chip manufacturers has actually 'fixed' this issue, making the 1.04 patches not always necessary (though the 1.04 patch may make the games a little bit less susceptible to certain "driver improvements" that may re-break the game).
Guest
(though the 1.04 patch may make the games a little bit less susceptible to certain "driver improvements" that may re-break the game). For the affected video cards I'd say this is probably true, as the issue Nvidia introduced in their drivers is one that has been problematic in various ways for a long time, so expect that they'll keep playing with it in future with similarly consumer-unfriendly results. As the 1.04 patch bypasses this "feature" it may well be helpful in future too.
Other Means
Going back through some old games and wanted to try to play CMBB on a new machine. CMBB will not play on vista. Any suggestions on way to make it work or why it will not work? Thanks You need to buy the Vista patch for a trifling stipend.
Drager
I'm using Vista, as well as Nvidia.... games running great with zero crashes since I started playing about 3 weeks ago. I did order the disc version.... that included the Vista Install. There is the online vista compatability download.... as mentioned above.
