Magnum50
I have attempted the tutorial mission 5 times now, each time when I get to the point where the enemy supply ship is identified, I'm told I can commence the attack... but then I can't fire any torpedos... using the space bar... I can drop charges, use the other guns, but no torpedoes... Is their something I'm mission, like a min or max distance, "locking up", or turning off the safety, lol? thx. Centauro
Its the stupid briefing not you. I discovered that when you are ordered to begin the fight you have to jump to one of the cannon positions, sink the two escorting german PT and only then you are allowed to use torpedoes against transport ships. Hit 4 till you see torpedoes in the lower right part of the screen. Then and only then you can use them.

A naval game that forces you to sink all of the escorts before you're allowed to take a shot at the transports? That raises a BIG red flag for me. I thought the entire purpose of surface raiders was to attack the big fat ships full of men and supplies. The idea is to avoid the armed escorts - which are there for the express purpose of sinking you - as much as possible and survive to fight again another day. That's almost as ridiculous a limitation as forcing the naval aircraft in the Pacific theater to sink all the escort ships before they could attack the carriers, or U-boats having to sink all the escorts before they could attack the transports in an Atlantic convoy. It appears the game is forcing you to win a shootout for no legitimate reason instead of concentrating on the real mission. That would be very disappointing and I hope I'm wrong. Schrullenhaft
It's a "Tutorial Mission". Admittedly it isn't teaching real-world tactics with this enforced "engage escorts first" type of training, but Akella must have thought you needed to learn to engage smaller craft first for some reason. It never explicitly says that I need to take out the escorts first. I ran into this same problem when I downloaded the Russian demo awhile back and here it was in English I still couldn't tell what was required of me. I just sort of stumbled on the idea of shooting these escorts as I couldn't do anything to the transports, so I thought, "Well, I guess I will go shoot something." That's not an ideal way to get one through a tutorial.
