flamingknives
Personally, I'd take most figures from the MoD website with extreme caution. They are frequently highly suspect if not flat-out wrong. I have come to the conclusion that the people who write most of it haven't got anything but the faintest idea of what they are talking about.

Most people in the MOD haven't got anything but the faintest idea of what they are talking about. Yup, sounds about right to me. What is even more worrying is that the civil servants seem to be pursuing policies that appear designed to undermine the efforts of the service personnel and public confidence in particular. For example, the story the UK population gets from the main stream media about Afghanistan is one of casualties, the soldiers are portrayed as victims of the dastardly Taliban. You can say a lot of things about the average British squaddie but a victim he ain't.
flamingknives
Well, it wouldn't do for me to tar all of them with the same brush.
GSX
Well we did for a few thousand years actually. Its only for less than the last hundred that we've had to worry about them. Yes, the unknown is always a worry for Pongoes and having a force that isnt under their control and they dont understand is probably the biggest worry:p
John Kettler
gibsonm, If we take the ADF figure, 1000 m, then we're talking a doubling of effective range when going from a vanilla Ma Deuce to a soft mounted, optics equipped one. An even better case than the one I just presented based on the U.S. Army 1500 m point target figure! Either way, it seems eminently reasonable to me to represent this considerable-enormous improvement in effective range in CM:SF, not just in terms of range, but also the ability to distinguish targets. From the vids I've watched, it's quite clear those optics are also actively employed in surveillance. Regards, John Kettler
