Fletchman
I have been playing CM for several weeks, and overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the AI. I'm not sure if this has been covered on this BBS before but the inability of Wooden Bunkers to be ordered to "hide" effectively makes them almost useless. The few times I've used them they open up on anything at extreme range. All that this accomplishes is to reveal the bunkers position and the bunker is reduced to kindling wood by every direct fire heavy weapon the enemy possesses within a minute or two. Shouldn't bunkers be allowed to form their own hide command and ambush markers independently? Of course the effectiveness of these orders should be determined by the troops experience rating.
Guest Madmatt
Wooden bunkers can hide once you apply the V1.05 patch. Madmatt [This message has been edited by Madmatt (edited 11-05-2000).]
Fletchman
Thats the problem. I'm running 1.05, and when I order them to hide they report as "hiding" but still open up on that tank at 750 yards etc.....
Guest Madmatt
Well experience level counts a great deal on when a unit comes out of hiding and opens up. Some units get spooked and begin firing much earlier than others. You could also try and target the bunker to an ambush marker closer in as placed by a nearby HQ for instance. Are you experanceng this frequently with Veteran and above crewed bunkers? Madmatt
Fletchman
Well the comment regarding 1.05 got me testing it again with a veteran unit and the hide worked this time. Maybe when I these bunkers open up early in earlier scenario's it was just a run of bad luck and jumpy machine gun crews. I certainly didn't run a large enough number of games to produce a statistical sample (it did happen several times in a row or I wouldn't have mentioned it.) At any rate guess I won't have to send the crews in for remedial training courses in concealment and fire discipline.
