e(un)Licensing baffles

No problems here but a few questions came to my mind right after installing and licensing the marines module (havent even started it yet).

I noticed the Marines module doesnt have an .exe file of its own? So when I right-clicked on CM: SF icon and checked the eLicense stuff it only showed me the info of CM: SF. I was trying to look if the Marines have the 2 licenses as CM:SF so I could install it on my laptop too without unlicensing on my desktop. So naturally I next progressed to scan the programs menu under battlefront and CM: SF to see whats there.. Cant remember if I've ever before checked the content there since I have a ton of desktop icons I prefer to use to operate my computer. Anyhow, there was this "Unlicense Combat Mission Shock Force" link. What does this do? Will it unlicense the Marines module as well as shock force or only SF? Finally I headed down to Control Panel to check the eLicense Control of licenses and thats where I found actual licenses for the Marines Module.

So my question is, what is the "proper" way to unlicense Marines if I need to reinstall? Will it unlicense when I right click the CM: SF icon and use the unlicense there?

You right click on the CM:SF icon on your desktop, select eLicense Control -> Procuct receipt. License Number: 01/02 for example means that the current machine is using license number one of two available licenses. You can also find the eLicense Control from your Control Panel. If they dont work you need a patch for the eLicense systems and you need to contact eLicense to get it. Not sure how well the eLicense Control will work under vista or specially vista64 but with my XP SP3 it works just fine.

This isn't related to Vista or the OS in general, but some other (CPU/hardware based) settings may prevent the eLicense Control from opening. The www.battlefront.com/faq is listing 3 alternative methods to unlicense (or was it 4?) including the standard one (for all newer games), namely by clicking the link that is under START>Programs called "unlicense ..." :)

Actually there is a separate exe for Marines. It's inside the "Modules" folder.

CMSF was "overwritten" by the Marines module, which includes a new CMSF exe that is "bound" to the Marines module. It doesn't matter if you use the Marines exe in the Modules folder or the (new) 1.10 CMSF.exe, same thing, same license.

yes but when I click on the icon on my desktop and view the license details, it shows the license details for the original CM:SF, not the marines module. so if select unlicense from right clicking the icon on my desktop, will it unlicense the marines module, original sf or both? Just thought that the unlicensing is a bit unclear atm. I know I can get everything unlicensed through the eLicense control from control panel, but as it seems (like in my flatmates laptop) the elicense control is not available in any form. These unlicensing issues came up with another eLicense title he had on his computer and because of one HD failure he had allready lost one license and he was in the middle of reformatting his machine so he needed to get the last license "safe". Actually I found the way to unlicense the other title from your faq using the -unlicense thingy and it worked fine.

So you say that the old .exe is overwritten with a new one? and that is bound to the marines license? so lets say there is someone with the same issue that they need to reformat, no elicense control available.. how do they go on about unlicensing the original CM:SF if using the -unlicense switch in the command would only unlicense the marines module?

So to sum things up I'm wondering:

1. Will the unlicense return both the original CM:SF license as well as the Marines Module to the auth server, or only one of them?

2. If only one of them is returned, how does one return the other license? That is IF the elicense control systems dont work, specially like you mentioned, the new .exe is for Marines?

I think there will be confusion and lost activations as people might not remember to return both the CM:SF and Marine module licenses..

You don't need to ever unlicense the original CMSF. It was converted to Marines, and all you'll ever need to unlicense in the future is the Marines module. It now includes both the base game and the module in one license.

If you re-license, simply install CMSF and then the Module. Then license the module. This takes care of both the base game and the Module in one go.

In other words, for everyone who has the module, the base game and module are now merged. Think of it as one game. And that's how licensing works (as well as future patching): for one game only.
