Info about weapons and capabilities? Does anyone having info set up on excel yet? It really helps when I set up scenarios. We had all kinds of these. What fires 7.76 ammo. what are the different AT assests... etc. I am no weapons expert but love a balanced scenario like the next guy, or like to build those tough defensive scenarios too!

AK family pre AK74 fire 7.62. AK 74 family fire 5.45 (AKSU-74) (RPK-74)

PK fires 7.62 but its the old rimmed round. Better long range characteristics, don't know if this is modelled.

RPD and RPK fire 7.62

Makarov pistols are 9mm

DshK 12.7mm

M4 5.56

M240 7.62

M9 (Beretta) 9mm

Must be some I have missed?

Just the most relevant distinction, between AK-47 7.62mm which is carbine caliber, and other 7.62mm both Russian and NATO MG and sniper rifle, which is full rifle ammo. About 3 times the power. Hyper relevant not just for range, but above all for dealing with body armor.

GonzoAttacker,

AK-74 family weapons (AK-74, AKSU, RPK-74) fire the 5.45 x 45 cartridge. The basic weapon is Russia's answer to the M-16, and the mujahideen, having experienced firsthand the unique internally shifting bullet in which the core slides forward on impact, call it the "poison bullet" from the horrific wounds it causes. The RPK-74 is Russia's SAW equivalent.

AK-47 family weapons (AK-47,AKM, RPK, etc.) fire the 7.62 x 39 cartridge. This is a carbine type cartridge but is still powerful enough to overmatch most body armor. Only ceramic inserts or even higher tech designs will stop it at close range. AK-47 type fire is what caused all the devastation in the North Hollywood shootout, going right through the "cover" normally afforded by police cars.

The PK and SVD both fire the vastly harder hitting

7.62 x 54 cartridge used in the old Mosin Nagant which itself is still in action. JasonC is entirely correct that the penetration difference, vs. both body armor, which he mentioned, and cover, which he didn't, matters.

Wiki has lots of useful material. This should be helpful. Of course, the Internet's awash in material on firearms.
