rlg85
For whatever reason, the CMSF process is set to high priority by default. Past experience with other games for me shows all that accomplishes is cause problems in windows for whatever reason. (You would think making it a high priority would be a good thing, but ive had problems with other games when doing this, not just CMSF) The main problem though is those using Intellimouse and or Intellitype software (Microsoft mouse and keyboard) will probably have problems as their processes (Itype,Ipoint) are interrupted by CMSF getting such high processor priority and cause sluggish behavior for them. I would recommend setting both CMSF,Itype,Ipoint to above normal, or settting CMSF down to normal, whichever works best for you.
Baron Ritzner Von Jung
I had the "shift+left click drag and freeze for a few seconds " problem . It is now gone by prioritizing CMSF to normal . Be blessed rlg85 . Thanks a lot for that awesome tip !!! [ July 30, 2007, 12:59 PM: Message edited by: Baron Ritzner Von Jung ]
massive1974
And how do you do that??? prioritize and stuff???
Baron Ritzner Von Jung
Ctrl+Alt+del Right-click the CMSF process and click Set Priority; then click the priority level. Set it on normal and confirm

massive1974
thanks John, now, i don't have a dual core. does this then have no relevance for me? i do get those stikcy keys...
JohnE
Nope you should be good to go!
massive1974
unfortunately its not as simple as that. no good to go, bad framerate issues
Tzen
Wow, it semi-works. It's still a bit clunky, but it actually works. Unfortunately, it seems to degrade performance a bit, but it's still better being able to select multiple units. Thank you!
rlg85
The camera is still a bit clunky even after this, and dual core issues are completely separate, after trying things a bit, I would try to have your CMSF set to above normal and if you use microsoft intellimouse/intelitype have those also set to above normal.
CRourke
Anyone know what the task for the ms intellimouse is called? I'm not seeing anything obvious in processes...

rlg85
Intellimouse = Ipoint Intellitype = Itype
CRourke
Dang, I'm not seeing that one.. maybe i'm not even running the driver.. or maybe its the logitech keyboard driver that i need to toy with...
Steiner14
I didn't mention another idea, because i didn't believe it could make any difference, but with rlg85's discovery about thread priority, it could be be worth a try, too: in WindowsXP look into Systemeigenschaften (System Properties?) -> Erweitert (advanced?) -> Systemleistung (system power?) -> Erweitert (advanced?) -> Prozessorzeitplanung (CPU time planning?) and set it from 'Programs' to Hintergrunddienste (background services?) This is a recommended setting for audio-workstations and helps the audio-engines. Maybe it has a positive effect on the graphiccard drivers? Don't forget to reboot before try.
Tzen
Setting CMSF to normal works best for me. I have a Logitech mouse and I don't even think I installed the software for it. Setting CMSF to above normal is about as screwed up as setting it to high.
rlg85
Im not sure what the mouse/keyboard processes are for Logitech or for the default mouse software, I can only speak for myself as I am running both Intellimouse and Intellitype. Either way, putting CMSF down to normal should help if you cant bring your input processes to above normal. You may however, lose some performance in CMSF.
Tzen
I think you should post this in the main forum. This info needs to be known. Thanks again.
UrbanCoyote
Nice find rlg85! This fixed all of my keyboard problems. It looks like the "short-cut" of setting priority to high for performance has some unintended consequences It's just a pain we have to lower the priority every time we start the game.

tarball
Sounds like another victim of less than thorough testing. However, all of these behaviors may have been reported during testing - it is my experience that sometimes reported bugs and flaws are not sewn up before released date. Thanks rlg for the find/catch.
Bonxa
Nice find! It solved my mini freezes when using the ctrl and shift keys and I'm just using a generic mouse with no special software installed.

BigDork
Very helpful, thanks. Now is there any way to set this to a default so I don't have to change the priority every time I want to play CM?
