I downloaded it with a 56k connection so it would be unpractical for me to download it again and i was hoping there was a way i could download just the 1555.bmp file or have it emailed to me. Please help me. Thank you toddsemail2000@yahoo.com

I'd suggest using a program like Winzip to manually open up the Demo download. Extract the files manually to whatever directory you want. You'll want to maintain the directory structure that is in the self-extracting zip (i.e. - a BMP, a WAV and a SCENARIOS folder). the CM executable needs to be in the same parent directory as the previously mentioned directories.

With DirectX 6.1 or greater installed in your system you should get a black screen with some white/blue text indicating the resolution it has detected. This is where you are having the problem - you can't see the text to select the resolution. CM will automatically go through a set of resolutions it can detect from your video adapter (usually different resolutions with particular refresh rates). Or you can manually tell it to run try the next resolution.

I'd suggest that you Ctrl-Alt-Del and "close" any running applications other than "Explorer" and "Systray". The run CM and see if it will display correctly.

Sometimes you may need driver updates or a reinstall of DirectX (in which case, download 7.0a, unless you're running Windows ME which is currently running 7.1).

DirectX 7.0a download (in small text down the page):

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=16819

Rage 3D Pro driver (on upper right hand side of page, v. J5.11.1B20 - latest BETA):

If this doesn't work for you, then some removal of drivers and other things are in store.
