With 1.3.0 Shrikes have finally become driveable. Actually they are now very maneuverable and STABLE! Especially the old-timers should give it a try and see what I mean. smile.gif

That led me to the idea of making a Shrike that could take on heavy tanks in close combat from the side or behind.

Something that can outmaneuver a big gun to move into the soft side of a Thor or Apollo.

Now my question to the military buffs here: what kind of weapon would that be?

I think it would be one of those three but I may be totally wrong and/or missing some options.

1) Low speed medium bore HEAT projectile (AT grenade)

2) Low speed AP big bore projectile with medium base penetration but with big falloff for limited range

3) Slow reload 20mm equivalent

Please comment.

I think what you might want to look at is the ShrikeA (still included in the base data file).

Now for a historical view point I recall that Korean War era there were the old Willey's Jeeps outfitted with a 90mm recoilless rifle (before the TOW missle). Some thing similar (76mm or 90mm gun) would be just the ticket, and easy to do.

Might try it out my self, if I get the time.

I've been thinking about doing this with the Shrike; I can give it a shot.

It seems that AT Grenades work pretty well on a Shrike; with the new stabilization, this may work even better.

Ye gods, the Shrike is stabler now! I'd like to give ATGs or even multi-fire shotgun-style ATGs a try, but I'm working on getting Dropteam installed on my Linux system right now. I'll be on it as soon as I can.

And also, should we add some sort of graphic for the ATGs it fires? Just out of pure curiosity; it'd be simple enough.

Sorry for the double post.

Poesel, here's the Shrike with ATGs. You can mod it however you like; I just put in 3 ATGs with spread and threw it up here. I've added a tracer to the ATGs for fun, and I upped the speed from 200 to 1000. You still can't do too much from range with the spread, but if you want to lower the speed anyway, feel free. Once I added tracers, the arc you got when firing it at distance was a bit strange.

As to what I think it needs: a new turret might work. Anyone with free time could throw in a new tracer as opposed to the old one everyone sees all the time. But the rough version is, once again, here.

Triple post, my apologies.
