Edwin P.
Player Selectable Event Response popups give players a choice when responding to an event. Example 1: Should the USA Embargo Japan? Yes (Historical) - No Effect No = No Siberian Transfer, USA gains Pacific Fleet, Extra HQ (McArthur) and Army Unit Example 2: After Pearl Harbor the Allied player sees this question: Should the USA war effort focus on Europe or Japan? Europe - No Effect Japan - Early Siberian Transfer, Reduce USA War Readiness by 15% - 30%.

Mike 60
Excellent idea. But how would the AI handle something like that when deciding? Maybe the modding/scenario building should split into 2 fractions; with the one doing scenarios for AI-play and the other for 2-player sessions. If we start making certain scenarios for PBEM and Hot-seat use only, something like the suggestion above would be great.
Edwin P.
The AI would be programmed to make a random choice. Example: Popup_For= 1 (For Allied Player) Country_ID= 3 Text_Question= "Should America focus its war effort on Europe or Japan" Text_1= "Europe" Text_2= "Japan" AI_Response= 1 [70] ;(70% Allied AI selects 1st Option, otherwise option 2)

ChrisND
There is a work-around for it, although it would be a chewing-gum-and-wire fix. Have a pop-up prompting the player to make a choice. Have a corps located on a remote island out of the game, that is used to trigger the decisions. For Choice A: Move a unit to this exact X,Y tile. For Choice B: etc For Choice C: Dont move to ANY of those tiles. And then those events are based off of the occupied tile. Granted, not pretty, but it would get the job done before a patch.

I had that sort of triggers for a entire-WWII-scenario I did for TOAW and it worked very well. That way players could decide for a number of events to have: Seelöwe, Barbarossa, Torch, Overlord; even a number of operations that never took place historically. Triggering the event made things happen and also comitted the player to that decision. I've tried to make the same trigger to SC2, but failed.
Edwin P.
Good idea, the only problem is that the popup text is limited.

Edwin P.
Sample Choice Event Ideas: IDEA 01: When: Upon Capture of Paris by Axis Axis: Sir, should we accept the French surrender terms? • Yes, let them have southern France. Result: Vichy France is created • No, it must be an unconditional surrender. Result: Vichy France is not created, French capital moves to Algiers -------------------------------- Interesting Strategic Choice: Accept the French surrender terms and you gain lots of MPPs now while the French army and naval units disband. Decline the French Surrender terms and the French capital moves to Algiers while the French army continues the fight. You do not gain any MPPs until Algiers is captured. Capture Algiers and you gain control of French Algeria, French Tunisia and French Syria. ============================================= IDEA 02: When: Upon Pearl Harbor Event if USA is Neutral Allies: Should America focus its war effort on Europe or Japan? • Europe. Result: Standard Game • Japan. Result: USA War Readiness declines 25%, Early Siberian Transfer -------------------------------- Strategic Choice: The Allies can focus the American war effort on Japan and trigger an early Russian Siberian transfer at the cost of reducing the readiness of America for war in Europe. IDEA 03: When: Upon German Capture of all 3 Russian cities in Ukraine Axis: What is our policy for the Ukraine? • Plunder. Result: Standard Game • Make them our allies. Result: New Country ============================================= IDEA 04: Upon Capture of Warsaw Axis: Should we divide Poland with Russia? • Yes. Result: Standard Game • No. Result: Russian War Readiness +10% to 30%% ================================================ IDEA 05: August 1941 - Should the America Embargo Japan? • Yes. Standard Game • No. America gains Pacfic Fleet, No Siberian Transfer ================================================ [ July 03, 2006, 08:42 AM: Message edited by: Edwin P. ]
ChrisND
One thing I did really like about HOI was the choices you make. I think this would do wonders for SC 2.
