Those SA-7s are not going to be all that useful in a ground war unless they are used as really expensive metal clubs to beat their enemies
thewood
Can you use a MANPAD against a ground target? ah, gib beat me to it. I like the metal club thing though. [ July 29, 2007, 09:48 PM: Message edited by: thewood ]
gibsonm
No. "Surface to Air Missiles" are amazingly enough designed to be fired against aircraft. They tend to be a waste of space if you try to target men in open or attempt to fire them at a vehicle or building as the guidance systems aren't designed for that. There are some systems (like Canada's Oerlikon ADATS) that are dual roled but that is because the targeting and guidance systems are designed to fire at either target. The only reason why the Shilka can be used against ground targets is if you turn off the radars and use the secondary, optic sighting system.
