SgtMuhammed
Did anyone see the Military Channel show about the M1? It showed some Marine M1s with what looked like a bolt-on CIWS. I don't know if it could swivel but it was definitly an optic device. Any of you know about this?
hellfish
IIRC it's a laser/ATGM dazzler. I originally thought it was an unprotected CITV.
SgtMuhammed
Ah ha! Thanks. Is the Army using them as well or just the Marines? The only ones I saw were on Marine tracks.
hellfish
Marines only, AFAIK.
Andrew H.
WTF is CIWS or CITV?
SgtMuhammed
Commander's Independent Weapons Sight or Thermal Viewer. Basically a duplicate of the gunner's sight that the commander can use to search for targets while the gunner engages ones already identified.

MikeyD
Since we're talking a 2007 timeframe, is BFC considering the new urban combat upgrade for the Abrams? The commanders' mg is replaced by a Stryker remote mg 'christmas tree', the loader station gets hummer-style extra armor for the mg mount, reactive armor boxes for side skirts, and some slat armor segments are added to the back. modifying the game's standard Abrams polygon could be pretty quick and we'd then be able to have fun testing out the differences between the two vehicles in an urban situation.
hellfish
IIRC it came up and the TUSK upgrade would be included.
MikeyD
¡Wow! Didn't really expect to see the TUSK upgrade (I had forgot the project name). This is good news. BFC's going the extra mile, it seems! [edited in response to the photo below] Can i hear a big "Yikes!" on the subject of commander's field of vision? [ November 04, 2005, 01:06 PM: Message edited by: MikeyD ]
mazex
Hmm... Regarding this TUSK modification, how is the quality of the tusks going to be modelled? I also think that the difference in angle between the tusks in a slashing attack is something the new engine will not handle... /Mazex
Michael Emrys
But it's great for opening cans of beer after an action. Michael
