John Kettler
This may be old hat to some of you, but I found it while running down references on a CMBB thread. http://www.amazon.com/Stryker-Combat-Vehicles-New-Vanguard/dp/1841769304/ref=pd_sim_b_4/104-1834394-7035961?ie=UTF8 The package deal with the related Hummer family book looks quite appetizing. Turns out that's basically a scam. If you price them out individually -- Stryker Combat Vehicles ($10.37) and HMMWV Humvee 1980-2005 ($10.85) -- you discover that $10.37 + $10.85 = $21.22. So the supposed package deal does not give you any financial benefit. I generally have positive feelings about Amazon, but I do find their advertising "Better Together" package deals which aren't actually deals to be rather questionable from an ethical standpoint.
John Kettler
PSY, I am really going to have to slow down, stop getting so excited and read the fine print! It's a real shame that one of the Internet's great success stories has to resort to such dubious marketing approaches. Good catch! rudel.dietrich
I always thought that was a way to show you related products and try to induce impulse buys
flamingknives
Mmm, impulse buys. They can be a good way to get above the threshold for free shipping but often come up with not-quite-matches. Buying "Men Against Fire" or some such and you get "Walter Mitty's Guide to being a Reel SAS man" as a second option.
Battlefront.com
Rudel is correct, but they really should make it look LESS like a package deal price. I have one of the Vanguard books. Generally pretty good stuff in there. A great overview for those who are looking for a nice one stop shopping trip source for basic info on Strykers. Unfortunately for us, it didn't tell us anything we didn't already know so it wasn't really worth it. Then again, we've been researching the heck out of Stryker since before the first production model came off the assembly line Steve
