drtechno
As we have been discussing in the Tactics forum, it seems that MGs are not deployable on roofs or in houses, and it doesn't appear that the game assumes automatic deployment in those situations. BF, could anyone comment is this correct or is this a bug? Just curious.
Huntarr
Yeah, can we get some official BFC on this? Can the MG be deployed in/on structures? Does the MG get a deployment bonus in/on structure or not? If not is it a bug that will/can be addressed? Some feedback on this one would be much appreciated. Statisoris
Are yall talking about deploying your own MGs or all MGs. The reason I ask is that I have designed several scenarios where Syrian MMGs and HMGs are located on roofs and different floors of buildings. These MGs always attack me just fine.
tc237
They mean using the "Deploy Weapon" command for MG's while on roofs or in rooms. I've tried and it does not work for me either. Might be WAD.
molotov_billy
It seems to work fine for Syrian MG's. I think it's just the US MMG that doesn't work in buildings.
drtechno
Hold on.. stop the press. Syrian MG's have no problem deploying inside buildings and on roofs? Can someone else quickly confirm this?
Capt. Toleran
I'm wondering -- on a roof or in a building, does it need to be deployed, or can it even? Seems like in those cases, the guns are balanced on roofs or windows.

JonS
Capt. Toleran has it right. MGs can be - and are - used indoors in CMSF. They cannot, however, be "deployed" on the SF tripod. Think about it for a while, and you'll see it makes sense. Elsewhere Steve has said you should be able to deploy them on rooftops as long as it has a low surrounding wall.

But you are telling me you have never seen an MG42 deployed inside a house?!? POPPYCOCK I say ! I hardly think today's MGs are more complicated or larger. Thats like the quintessential WW2 scene, an MG42 (deployed) openning up from the second story of a house to ambush an allied patrol. Band of Brothers anyone? Anyway, I do think you should be able to deploy inside a building. But no biggie if thats how it is supposed to work in this game (which approximates reality)
Yardstick
How the hell are you gonna deploy a tripod inside of a house? Really.
Huntarr
SOP has you stack objects in the interior to form a firing platform. You actually are firing from within the room, you try not to stick your barrel out the window due to the fact it can give away your position easier. Also they use what we Snipers use. PeterLorre86
In the set up phase, you can place deployed MGs inside or ontop of buildings. In the editor too i think. That you can not do it once the game has started sounds like a bug to me.
Battlefront.com
I think the details have been covered here well enough already. Deploy Weapon means setting up the tripod only. It doesn't mean you can't use it in bipod mode. Firing from a window would require, as Huntarr says, a bunch of objects gahtered to form a stable firing platform. It is possible to do, but there is no guarantee that such materials exist or can be gathered easily/quickly. In other words, it is extremely variable. I suppose we could allow it to be setup within a house with some major time penalty (10 minutes?), but I'm not sure what the point of that is. In an urban setting, which is the typical time you would find yourself in a house, the likely range to potential targets is rather short. Therefore the major benefits of the tripod (range, height off the ground, and longer range accuracy) are pretty much neutralized. In other words, a MG on the bipod through a window is most likely to be as good, if not better due to increased freedom of movement, than if it is mounted on a tripod. Let's just say that for these reasons special consideration for mounting a MG on a tripod within a building is not high up on our list of things to muck around with Steve
Truppenfuhrung
Excellent! Thanks for this explanation! I may add:
Huntarr
Thanks Steve, for putting this baby to sleep. I can rationalize that explanation.
