Littletinsoldier
( Sorry if this topic has been covered - found nothing in a not-very-thorough search ) I wondered if there were any plans to include some of the nifty new mine protected vehicles in CMSF, such as the Cougar and the Buffalo?
MikeyD
From past posts it sounds like BFC is considering specialty vehicles like M1117 and Buffalo to be outside of the game's scope, not being integral to a Stryker brigade. Too bad about the M1117, I was hoping to give it a test spin. I hear the Marines are pushing hard for the Buffalo as a quick Humvee replacement. Unfortunately, I think the manufacturer is capable of only turning out 40-50 vehicles a month (or maybe that was just economic constraints?). Let's hope BFC finds a decent set of scale plans (and interior shots) in time for their promised CMSF Marine module!

offtaskagain
The Buffalo is a huge vehicle. It's damned near school bus size. I really wouldn't consider it a realistic replacement for the HMMWV. It's certainly got it's uses but it's not a utility vehicle like the HMMWV.
MikeyD
There's also a 4x4 version more truck than bus size. Let's see if I can locate a pict on the net Mini-Cougar 4x4 (Humvee replacement?): Cougar6x6: Cougar 6x6(?) interior buffalo: [ January 11, 2007, 11:22 AM: Message edited by: MikeyD ]
Battlefront.com
Yes, absolutely outside of CM's scope, even though they are pretty damned cool from a military vehicle standpoint! Steve
Sequoia
I bet there's at least one cool thing in the game that wasn't necessary but you just couldn't resist.
Battlefront.com
That was about 80% of CMBB and we swore to never do that again Steve
Leeo
Steve, stop swearing and give in to the mass of esoteric demands, damnit!
tiny_tanker
The cougar is (or will be at least) the marine replacement for the HMMWV, and is the secondary vehicle for EOD units in general. The army has also expressed interest in the cougar, but i have yet to see any more recent information on that.

flamingknives
Um, that's the Viking ATVP - A Royal Marine vehicle - it's tracked, amphibious and all that - not really a replacement for Snatch. This, perhaps
Littletinsoldier
On a related matter, I'm curious how CMSF will handle the different mine/IED types. There are so many now, from mines and rigged artillery shells to those Iran-style massive shaped charges. And I read about one I hadn't heard of the other day, a platter charge, which apparently has a pretty powerful armour piercing effect. Not to mention the various anti-personnel booby traps the Arabs seem to be so expert at. Not a feature request, just curious...
KNac
Let me guess the answer... IED usage is part of insurgery fighting and is out of the scope of the game. Something along these lines So mines (AT/AP) will have to do it.
flamingknives
I'm pretty sure that Steve said that command-detonated explosives, including IEDs, were in, and there were a number of different types modelled.

John Kettler
Challenger2, May I suggest that you try www.tinyurl.com in order to make that gigantic URL small enough that it no longer roughly doubles the page width? Regards, John Kettler
C'Rogers
Or may I suggest for anyone, including John, to put links in via the full reply form so it doesn't extend the page view at all. As done above by Flamingknives, much easier than using an external website. Example
