Cpl Steiner
I started a thread on the Yom Kippur war a while ago and several books were mentioned here.
Jeff Duquette
“The Heights of Courage” by Avigdor Kahalani “Duel for the Golan” by Asher & Hammel “Arabs at War” by Kenneth Pollack
76mm
I recommend: --THE HEIGHTS OF COURAGE, by Kahalani (tank battles in Golan heights); --ARABS AT WAR, by Pollack (very interesting, though lengthy, treatment of several Arab armies thoughout the post-WWII period, including the Yom Kippur war) .
JasonC
Look for "Lessons of Modern War" by Cordesman and Wagner. It is a 4 volume series. The first covers the Arab Israeli wars from 1973 on, the second the Iran-Iraq war, the third the Falklands and Afghanistan, and the fourth the first Gulf war. They are excellent, operations research quality analysis of what worked or didn't and why, not mere atmospheric boilerplate and "we wuz thar" stuff.
John Kettler
Excellent recommendations! Would suggest adding Trevor N. Dupuy's tome ELUSIVE VICTORY: The Arab-Israeli Wars 1947-1974 to the list, not just for the detailed Yom Kippur coverage but for the broader historical, geostrategic context.
