Mac to PC PBEM problem

Recommended Posts

1. I'm a mac user

(CM 1.12)

2. its my first PBEM.

This Afternoon I was sent a file of a QB which I answered, attached and returned. i myself had no problem to load his mail and play it. He (pc user) instead couldnt load it. I must think that the failure is on my side cause I tried another one(with another pc user).

Am I the first having such problems?

In the manual something is said about "uuEncoding" should be without compression. So where do I have my compression enabled? I sent the file in simple text(automaticly) and I saved them in Word but they could neither load my files.

First I thought it's because of the different updates. But my mate did update his version to the same level as mine so we could start a IP game(finally!).

any ideas...???

I use a mac and I've had as many problems with people with macs as with pcs. It seems to depend more on your email program and the servers that you and your opponent use. I use Eudora and have had problems with people who use AOL/Netscape. The funny thing is that their attachments show up differently depending on which of my addresses they send to, even though I use the same mailer for all addresses.

A few things to try:

-Download "Zipit" and send them zipped

- try setting your encoding to "mime" (aka "appledouble"

-try simply dropping the ".txt" suffix (that fixes my problems with Netscape/AOL)

- if nothing else works, open the file in a true text editor (not MSWord!!!) like BBedit lite (which is available free from bare bones software) and then simply copy and paste the file into the body of the message. Ugly but it ought to work, even in the worst cases. Eudora has a feature that lets you insert the file directly, so I don't have to use a separate editor.
