Computer Locks Up On Go!

Recommended Posts

I'm developing a new scenario and I would like to do some play-testing on my new map. Unfortunately, when I set up a few sample units and then click Go, the computer locks up as soon as the "computer player thinking" bar goes on the screen. :(

Ctrl-Alt-Del will sometimes let me shut down CM and continue, but more often, I end up having to turn the computer off.

The map is 4000m by 1020m. The units I'm trying to test with are two American sharpshooters vs a Lynx and two Hotchkiss tanks.

Computer is a Dell 333 with a Hercules 32M video card. Other than this problem, the game has run beautifully on my system.

Any clues would be appreciated.

I have no idea why you're seeing this problem since there are a very limited number of units on the board. Do you have any objecive flags on the map yet ? Have you tried to make a smaller map with the same units ? Just open your scenario again and reduce the map size and then save it with a different file name.

How much memory does your machine have ? Do you have any other programs open at the time you're running this scenario ?

I'm not running any other programs at the same time.

The machine has 128 meg of RAM.

There are two flags in the middle of the map.

I'll try it with different units and a smaller map tonight. We'll see what happens.

I've had no trouble running relatively big scenarios like All or Nothing in the past, so I don't think it's a memory issue. But, you never know.

This is the first scenario I've tried to develop and I've been enjoying the heck out of designing the map. Having it lock up on me is kinda frustrating.
