messed up text on Mac

I recently reinstalled the system software on my mac, and i thought i'd reinstalled all the graphic extensions as well. But, in the game, some text is not displated correctly. e.g. in the unit info and kill screens, or the text shown during setup, even the dialog box which asks if i really want to quit.

Other boxes are ok, such as the hotkeys box.

Sometimes a letter is replaced by a coloured small verticle line: | and at other times it is out of place.

Also, the french victory flag is blurred mainly gray with a little bit of blue. The axis and american flags work fine, but i've not checked the others.

EDIT: I just noticed from looking at the screenshot, that "i's" and "l's" are replaced by red lines, colons by white lines.

If you have a Mac using a Rage 128/128 Pro (the latest iMacs and G3/G4s, etc.), then you'll need the latest OpenGL extension (1.2.1 ?) which addresses this issue of "black text". This comes with OS 9.1 and with the latest 1.12 patch for the Mac.

I can't recall if other video cards on the Mac had this problem, but this was the most common one.
