Engineers & friendly minefields

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has already been the subject of a previous thread (an extended search has turned up nothing at all, though).

In the middle of an attack QB as the defender, I simply MUST blow a gap in my own system of barbed wire / minefields to open up a counteratack path. However, my engineers don't seem to be willing to clear friendly minefields. Has anyone ever managed to clear an own minefield? Any tricks?

minefields are like those "undead" flak trucks, they are undestructable! no bangdelor torpedos in this game, and engineers with their satchel charges wont blow holes in wire. for wire, you just have to walk through them and hope no MG's are around!

as to mines, leave an engineer on them or close to them. it takes forever but eventually they will clear them. ive never even tried to do it before, i just go around them.

I just cleared some minefield last night. The first was cleared in about 1 1/2 turns, but the second and third took about 4.

I may have inadvertantly botched it by having my Pioneers HIDE...I dunno if this prevents mine clearing. Does anyone know?

The turn after I unHID them, they cleared two minefields right away.

NOTE: It helps if the Engineers are not in a Firefight at the time...they seem to get distracted.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm talking about, for example, US Engineers clearing US minefields, i.e. how to clear friendly minefields to make a gap for a surprise flank attack, for instance.

And yes, I'm pretty sure hiding and clearing a minefield is not simultaneously possible.

I don't think Engineer squads can / will clear their own minefield. The reason for this is simple: It would actually make it impossible to place an Engineer Squad near one's own minefield without them starting to clear it (which in most likelihood is not what you might want them to do). I think the best solution (for the next time) is to leave a small corridor for your own troops (only you know where it is), and make sure it is covered by a MG (just in case).

Thanks, Clay. I'm afraid you're right. And by golly I wish I'd known before - I've had to make a HUGE detour. Talk about lost opportunities... Oh well next time I suppose I'll follow your advice and leave a few secret corridors open for exactly that purpose.
