demoss
I remember reading somewhere that mechanical breakdown wasn't going to be included. However, I've noticed that in [CENSORED] with a pile of Panther Ds, I've had two of them self-immobilize in the steppes - both after only a little movement (interestingly, the rest of them have moved a full km or more). Is the Panther D just a special exception (I could certainly believe that!)? Or is something else going on?
DevilDog
That's likely a result of bogging down and then becoming permanently immoblized. I've only had time to play a couple quick games, but vehicles seem to have a higher chance of immoblizing in CMBB then they did in CMBO.
Chad Harrison
You have to watch out for 'rocky' in Steppe. It will increase the chances for immobilization, and it is very hard to see! In CMBB, there is no chance for mechanical failures, other than Jams. BFC said that any tanks that did breakdown were assumed to have broken down before the battle. demoss
No 'rocky' around - just suddenly bogged & then immobilized in the steppe. I'll double-check the environmentals tonight.
SlowMotion
>No 'rocky' around - just suddenly bogged & then immobilized in the steppe. I'll double-check the environmentals tonight. Are you sure? If terrain elements are switched off, rocky looks like normal ground.
demoss
I suppose it's possible that it "bogged" in rocky ground and its momentum carried it out, but the display clearly said immobilized - steppe. I'll take a closer look tonight - I have two good examples. Luckily there are plenty more, and I haven't yet seen any real threats. Gotta like Panthers in a meeting engagement - keeps the risk of side shots down.
Zarquon
When I posted this same question some time ago, lots of people reported the same problem. BTS said they'd keep an eye on this as bogging in Citadel is possible, but should happen very, very rarely.
JonS
Z, yes, I recall that too. What I found odd about BFCs post on this was that it appeared that the chance of bogging appeared to be tied to the number of vehicles moving. Spoilers * * * * * * * * * * * For example, in Citadel, if the German player starts off turn 1 by having all 15 tanks moving, there is a very good chance that one or more will bog, and that they will do so fairly soon into the turn. If, on the other hand, the German player only has a few vehicles moving at any one time, then the chance of any of them bogging throughout the scenario is quite low. Weird - like all those tanks rumbling around together vibratting the ground suddenly make the steppe take on the consistancy of jelly. I thought it was limited to the demo though. demoss
Update: No rocky terrain anywhere near the Panthers in question. Possibly none on the entire map - haven't seen any. I used the LOS tool to test the area the Panthers had been to make sure. Ground is dry. I've also had a third Panther bog. Not yet immobilized, fortunately. If it's a bug, please fix or do somefink!
