mouse problems

Recommended Posts

What kind of problems are you having with your mouse pointer ? Some users have some cursor/screen corruption in the 2D initial screens. This is often due to the video drivers (some of which haven't been fixed).

I assume that you're actually using Windows ME and not 98. What mouse are you using ? Do you know if you're using drivers specifically for that mouse or are you running Windows generic drivers for it. You can find out by going to Start Menu Settings > Control Panel > System control panel > Device Manager tab > double click on the mouse listing - the item that drops beneath this listing is the mouse driver that you're using. Windows generic drivers will often be labelled as "Standard Serial Mouse" or "PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port" (and some "Microsoft" variants of this). Sometimes it is better to use the generic drivers instead of the manufacturer supplied ones (though you may lose some settings/characteristics by using the generic drivers).

Do you know what video card you have ? Sometimes a video driver update may fix the problems you're seeing (though sometimes upgrading drivers may cause other problems).
