Pow Pow
I was wondering when it is advisable to have the AI stick to the scenario default for placing troops during the setup phase, and when its not. Is it scenario specific? Or is it just up to the player preference? If I do allow the AI to place their troops wherever, will they still adopt a good defensive scheme? Is the AI smart enough to adopt a good position if I let it place on its own? Thanks in advance.
Guest Michael emrys
The AI is pretty smart on defense, less so on offense. I think the main reason for the option though is that it is assumed that user-designed scenarios are intended to replicate (to some degree of accuracy) a historical action. Allowing the AI free setup undermines the historical nature of the scenario. Michael
jasoncawley@ameritech.net
Well, the AI is not better than most designers, even at defense set ups. If you haven't played the scenario before as either side, I'd therefore strongly recommend the "stick to default" option. Once you have played it as either side, though, you know the starting set up. If you want to play it again, use "free placement", so that you don't know everything. You will still know the enemy force mix, but at least not exactly where they are.
