manchildstein (ii)
hi, i just received the game and am wondering if there are no soviet field guns over 76.2mm available for direct fire? i had heard that the soviets enjoyed using artillery pieces in direct fire. is the above not true or were the graphics for the 122mm and 152mm simply not produced for the game? i'm going to miss large caliber stuff in a direct fire role. At least, as it is it's easy to whip up a veritable hornet's nest of 76.2mm... rock 'n' roll!
von Lucke
Good question. I just noticed this myself. The Germans have the 105mm howitzer available --- and the 150mm IG, which strictly speaking, is more direct fire. Why shouldn't the Sovs have the 122 and 152? Grisha
I agree. It seemed strange that the only field gun for Soviets was the 76.2mm especially when the Soviet relied on direct fire much more than the Germans.
Bone_Vulture
I'd call game balance - in '41-'42 the German forces are already in the ****ter with Russian tanks. Well, maybe if the Russian heavy field guns would have a hefty price tag...
Silvio Manuel
But I thought I saw an in-game picture of CMBB posted here that showed some behemoth Soviet gun-? Maybe it was just the German 128mm FlaK?
flammenwerfer
Also in the Stalingrad defense, soviet Field guns were used in close quarters...

White Phosphorus
Some heavies were brought over to the other side after the encirclement.
Bullethead
CMBB follows the same system used by CMBO as regards what heavy guns are available on-map. The highest level available in both cases is the division's arty regiment--if the gun was only found at corps-level and above, it's not going to be on the map. In addition, if the divisional arty had multiple calibers, the biggest size isn't seen on the map. So in CMBB, the Russian divisional arty for most of the war had 76mm and 122mm pieces. At the very beginning and very end, there were also 152mm tubes, but neither for very long. So following the same rule as in CMBO, the Russians should only have 76mm guns on the map, nothing bigger. Bone_Vulture
I wuv my 150mm inf gun! Boy, it creates quite a catastrophic explosion when one of those catches a KV-1 with a HC round.
