rwwald
megramps again. Apologies for all the questions. I have insalled winxp on d drive after all my problems with 98.I still get a not shut down correctly when starting in 98 and when starting in xp get a freeze, reset and then all seems ok,however this is not the question. I have noted that the main answer to problems seem to be make sure you have the latest drivers. I tried a pbem file sent to me and the result was a crash at 33 secs then about 40secs.Extended desktop disabled Driver info Ti4200 driver 2.8.3.2 9/03/02 Creative pci128(wdm)5.12.1.4113 5/12/01 Downloaded and insalled updates Same file loaded and ran once ok. Tried again and left my extended deskop on file loaded and ran once including back all ok So I should now be smiling checked to see the updated drivers Ti4200 2.7.2.0 15/01/02 Creative pci128 5.12.1.2065 26/10/01 I admit I am in my second childhood but for the life of me I cannot understand how the drivers I have installed are later than the original ones. Can a kind person take the time to explain thanks.
Schrullenhaft
Maybe your 'update' was actually a downgrade. This can happen sometimes with the Windows Updater and its driver recommendations. The older driver was installed over the newer driver at some point. I'd suggest running the 'Detonator Destroyer' which you can get from Guru 3D and installing a newer driver (to get the files click on Videocard Drivers > NVIDIA Detonator drivers > the Detonator Destroyer will be at the top and the latest WHQL release for Win9x is 29.80). I'd also suggest reinstalling DirectX 8.1 before you install the new driver, but possibly after removing the old driver (you can get DirectX 8.1 here. For more complete instructions read the bottom of this thread.
