dday
First of all, Great game! In order to get CM to play with my nvidia tnt2 m64 video card I have to decrease the agp aperture size to 16mb when it should be 64mb. Yes to all the usual questions; drivers, directx. I haven't updated the motherboard chipset drivers yet. The demo acted the same. Funny thing Close Combat is the same way. I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but does anyone have any ideas?
Doug Beman
dday, I've been having similar problems with my Matrox G400 card. CM would eventually cause my system to hard freeze, requiring a reset-button hit. I tried new drivers for video, audio, sound, and mouse. No fix. Tried updating the VIA 4-in-1 drivers. No fix. Tried setting AGP Performance in BIOS to NORMAL. No fix. Disabled FastWrites. No fix. Forced IRQ reserving for the legacy crap on the SBLive. No fix. Lowered AGP size from 128 to 64. Game still crashes, but ctl/alt/del now brings up TaskMgr which can be used to kill CM. I will set the AGP size to 32 and see what that does. Schrullenhaft
dday - are you saying that CM is locking up for you ? As for the AGP Aperture needing to be resized - I'm not sure why CM brings that out in some systems. It may be the number of textures being used or something to that effect that pushes some video drivers too hard. Do you have any programs running in the background, including virus-checkers ? You may want to Ctrl-Alt-Del and shutdown all programs except "Explorer" and "Systray" before you run CM. What resolution are you running at ? You may want to delete your CM prefs file and select a lower resolution to see if that helps. What drivers are you using for your video card ? Some of the NVidia Detonator 3 drivers may not perform very well with the TNT chipsets (they're primarily geared towards the GeForces).
Doug Beman
WHEEEEE!! I can play CM again!! I sent my PC back to its maker and the replaced the Asus A7V mobo/Thunderbird700 combo with a CUV4X/P3 733 setup. I played "MoveIt or LoseIt" last Friday night, no locks/corruptions/etc. I'm so happy! Now I just need to be able to afford cable modem hookup and I can resume losing PBEMs with dignity!
