There is something wrong with your video driver according to this Microsoft Knowledgebase article.

Basically it boils down to either uninstalling your current video driver and using a generic SVGA driver (temporarily) and/or updating your current video driver. You may have to opt for the first method of uninstalling and eventually reinstalling your video drivers.

I suggest you UNINSTALL your video drivers and install your video card as an SVGA. See if Media Player responds to that (though you'll be limited to 16 colors).

If that works, then depending on what OS you're using, you may want to install DirectX 8.1 and then you're latest video driver.

If you want more help than that you'll need to provide more info on your system (motherboard, video card, Windows version, video driver version, sound card, etc.).
