Salkin
I Read Squeezing the Melon from both your(mr. Kettler) and Ace Pilots perspective. A fierce fight . It's very entertaining to read the thoughts from both sides. Nice work . Always enjoyable to read close AARs. //Salkin
John Kettler
From the mists of the World Before ROW we have remnants of the all but mythical Invitational Tourney thread, the action in progress reports for which begin around page 6. Since I seem to keep stumbling across piece of it, I'll keep inserting the newly found links. With luck, they'll even be in sequence. Newcomers to this list shouldn't let the nomenclature of the threads bother them. We found ourselves suddenly in danger of server collapse, causing all sorts of panicked workarounds and weird titles to ensue. Invitational Tourney (Part I) http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=019427;p=1 Interim Invitational Tourney Part II http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=020419#000007 CM:BO Invitational PBEM Tourney of "Stars" …. Part II http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=020421;p=1 Eureka! While chasing something else down, I found more (thought to be lost) wonderful segments from the extensive threads of the Invitational Tourney. The notorious Jarmo quote "Rockets! Kettler's firing rockets!" is at the bottom of page 7 the Invitational Tourney--A New Beginning Thread. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=020866;p=1 Here's Part II of the Invitational Tourney--A New Beginning, where the rocket slanging (and slinging) continues. Ari Maenpaa is the Champ! http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=002233#000015 Only slightly less mythical was Wild Bill Wilder's Rumblings of War AAR Thread (now called ROW I). Completely forgot it and the Invitational were run more or less in tandem! http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=021599;p=1 ROW I Part II http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=005544;p=1 Part III of ROW I is here. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=31;t=000019;p=1 Part IV (who won and analysis) of ROW I is here. jwxspoon
I thoroughly enjoyed designing both Squeeezing the Melon and Fire on the Mountain. I was actually partially finished with a CMAK remake of FOTM when, alas, I lost interest. Perhaps someday I'll revisit it. jw
John Kettler
jwxspoon, Neither of these should be played, IMO, in either original CMBO or in CMAK converted form, without basic sanity certification and access to large amounts of B-Complex vitamins. Do you happen to recall who came up with Sounds in the Night, my original nightmare both figuratively and literally? GreenAsJade
JK: I'll be darned - my ROW IV AARs dont have the score in them. I must have been writing them in the context of the tourney, where it was kind of assumed that the audience was involved and knew the scores. Or somefink! However, all the ROW V AARs (mine included) have the score in them, at the top. It was mandatory Cheers, GaJ
John Kettler
I know it's ancient history, but I don't ever recall seeing Michael Dorosh's AAR for Fire on the Mountain. Would still very much like to read it. Also, I hereby renew my request for Treeburst155 or anyone who has them to supply the Invitational Tourney and ROW I AARs. The descriptive stuff from the first two is helpful, but is hardly in the same league as the full AARs. John Kettler
Wanted to note for the record that I managed to locate several more long absent Invitational Tourney threads. Some are still missing, and not everything's in proper sequence, but most are now in one place in this thread, and I have two more to reposition into the primary Invitational Tourney post. John Kettler
Found another piece of the Invitational Tourney, patching a big gap in the middle, and the continuation of the ROW I thread.
