A bit late...

why did you bother to move anything except the plt HQ. Planes aim for the most valuable toy on the playground - which is usually the HQ of the most expensive plt or a single vehicle of the same price.

The only exception I found is that they ignore an immobile plt HQ and go for his plt mates (read: toy 2-4 on the price list).

Well, he was the only one buttoned, but that was luck not skill.

I moved them all because you never know with CM, & they were all close enough to suffer from a lucky hit.

I think it's definately the way to go though, leave unbuttoned & shoot back.

To answer the original question... Spreading a group of tanks obviously helps against the rockets and especially bombs that are dropped at your armor. A vastly deadlier threat against an open topped vehicle are the guns the ground attack planes carry.

I think you can gain some modest cover against airborne threats if you park your tanks in shrubs or scattered trees. It will not repel any incoming fire, but it might cause the plane to go for some more visible targets.
