Ksak
My set-up: PII 333 STB Velocity 4 mb I now get 972 horizontal. What do I need to get higher res?
Schrullenhaft
"High Res" is usually used on this forum to indicate bitmap textures that are created in a higher resolution than the ones that came with the game (usually created in 'multiples' of the original resolution). Your video card is a bit anemic in the amount of video memory it has (4Mb). CM probably uses the lower resolution bitmaps that came with the game (there are two sets of bitmaps for most of the terrain). This can cause your display to look a bit "blocky", especially when you get close up to something. In order to change this you will need a video card with more memory. Depending on what bus slots your motherboard has you can get a PCI or AGP card (which your motherboard may not support - depending on how old it is) with 16 or 32Mb of video memory. Since your CPU is of the slower variety (with what is currently available) I would not recommend getting a GeForce card (though a GeForce MX may not be too bad). The reason for this is that the higher end video cards require quite a bit out of the processor to do their jobs. If the CPU is slow, the cards won't work at the performance levels that they were engineered for - in essence you would be wasting your money until you upgraded your CPU (which is another question altogether). For PCI cards a TNT2 with 16/32Mb of video memory would probably be a good purchase (approx. US$100 or so). Voodoo 3 PCIs can also be good, but some users do have some problems with them (and 3dfx has gone out of business - so future driver support is almost guaranteed not to happen).
