rocketman
I only play against the AI, but have not tried quick battles yet. I'm looking for small battles of some 20 minutes long. My question is - do quick battles against the AI come out any good/interesting compared to scenarios?
British Tommy
All depends how the game engine places the forces and the location of the flags. A designer can and will make a superior small scenario. But then the only way to really enjoy the CM games is play against a human opponent. Once you have taken this step, playing against the AI will seem too easy!
rocketman
Will the AI do a better job of placing forces/flags etc. depending on of it is defending, attacking or if it is a meeting encounter - thus making it a better quick battle?
Philippe
The game engine will never do as good a job of setting up as a good scenario designer. And it will never do as good a job of map-making as a good map designer either. But a mediocre scenario designer or a mediocre map designer, well, that's another story.
rocketman
I just finished a quick battle, and to be honest, it's like you said Philippe, quite mediocre - no sense of structure or tactics, just uncontrolled mayhem.
jwatts
I absolutely HATE QB scenarios. The map design and flag placement are usually pretty mind-bogglingly (is this a word? it is now!) bad. Add that to the shoddy unit placement of the AI, and they just aren't very fun. Notable exceptions include (obviously) H2H play, and tank only battles (I like to pick crappy tanks for the AI, and completely wreck shop!) Give me a good scenario any day, plus I love knowing that what i'm playing either happened in real life, or at least could have.
