Guest Sgt. Emren
Searched the boards to no particular avail, my question is this: I have placed TRP's on a road which runs through some dense forest. I suspect my opponent will amass infantry in this wooded patch to assault the nearby town in which I defend. However, my mortar spotters are unable to target said TRP, probably because they have no LOS. I am not completely sure of this, though, because I thought the point of TRP's was to concentrate fire in locations which are hard to spot. Is it so that only onboard artillery can target TRP's (and I know no-LOS mortars can do that) and spotters (i.e. all off-board artillery) can't? If so, I am truly doomed! I opted for infantry-only defence (with Axis) of this rather large town in broken terrain. But if I have reduced use of my artillery because of this (bug? anomaly?), then the proverbial ****e might very soon hit that thingy which is spinning in the ceiling above me.....
edgars
What makes you think you can't target the TRP? The line may be red/black (sight blocked) but you still can target the TRP. Check what delay counter says. If it's 1 minute or less, then you've successfully targeted the TRP.
Guest Sgt. Emren
Well, the targetting line doesn't behave like it normally does with TRP's (the snap-to-TRP effect) so I assume that it doesn't work. But, admittedly, I haven't tried locking the target. I didn't want to waste my precious ammo.
Sergei
So what you're saying is you're trying to target TRP with forward observers (off-board mortars)? Nearby TRP's will shorten the delay for FO's to call the bombardment and make it accurate even if your FO has no LOS to the TRP. They will not snap onto the TRP.
Terrible
Any indirect fire unit can target a TRP without LOS. Of course, LOS to the TRP by off map artillery units will reduce the fire delay but all indirect fire units can target the TRP. You'll certainly want to make sure someone on your force has LOS to the TRP so that you know when to fire. Good Luck

On board -mortars can target TRPs with No-LOS only if they didn't move from set-up positions. Off-board arty can target them anytime, with or without LOS. MikeyD
I had completely forgot about the "don't move before targeting TRP" rule for on-board mortars! Thanks for remnding me. TRP artillery out of LOS works for me just fine. You know it's working when the shells start falling inside 90 seconds instead of 6 minutes AND they're falling reasonably close to where you want them to (like ON the board!)
