Huge Multi-Player Campaign: Bagration '44 This Summer.

Um, methinks you haven't entirely thought this through.

You want to simulate a fight that destroyed an entire army group, attacked by several fronts, at the scale of squad units with individual man losses?

You'd need a staff of thousands, ten thousand players, and twenty years. With all concerned doing nothing else, for that entire period. It is not remotely going to happen.

Pick a manageable sub fight. I'm not doing the whole Kursk battle, you know. Just part of 3rd Panzer division's attack on the left flank of the southern assault. As in, a 30th of a smaller battle for a limited period.

It would be a nice job if the players are paid for : I easely imagine that many guys here would prefer playing CM for money during 20 years than going to work everyday :D

not the entire. Just redoing so of the skirmishes that happened around minsk. Just got off a CloseCombat GSJ GC and felt to do something with CM now.

Btw, don't treat me like a Noob, I've been around since the days of BO, but I never post and changed from a earilier account.

Since I am not working on a CC mods right now, I figure I would do a few Minsk maps for an operation I was planning and then came up with this......

I saw the Kursk game and while I really don't care for armour heavy battles, and would perfer Bagration.

Btw, Jason, Me thinks you didn't read or get the whole idea. I just started this idea on a whim and I was just seeing if anyone had interest in the idea.

Note why I said June/July for this and Not HEY LETS PLAY TOMARROW. "rolleyes"

Just trying to be helpful. You said you were getting an OOB for Bagration. A TOE from that era might be more helpful when doing a battle of modest size.

On armor, the Russians had plenty. The Germans had several hundred StuGs, but not much turreted armor (a lot of it in the wrong places etc).

At Minsk there was a large pocket where several German IDs died. That was well after the main attacks, though, part of the exploitation phase.

A typical fight early might have a somewhat reduced German ID trying to stop an attack mostly by allocating arty fires, then helped by a StuG brigade, perhaps some schnell alert units (towed Pz Jgrs and infantry in trucks, battalion sized - used as reserves for their motorized speed). The Russians would have lots of RD formations, only slightly reduced each, tons of army level arty, a tank brigade, and some SUs (likely 76s). Also independent motorized ATGs and 120mm mortar formations.

If the point is to give a feel for why it all happened. You can look for an area where the match up was like that. There were some axes where the Russians had entire Tank corps hitting single infantry regiments, but those wouldn't exactly make competitive fights.

June 23-26: BreakThrough at Orsha, and the Smolensk-Minsk Highway.

Maybe focus on the actions involving 78th Sturm and 14th Infantrie Divisions?? loking at 9+ Russian Division vs 3 german infantrie(I need a TO&E for the 78th Sturm)

June 29- July 3, 1944 Liberation of minsk.
