I agree that a more robust pathfinding AI should be a high priority for the engine rewrite. My point was just the opposite: as long as you don't have a smart enough pathfinding, don't introduce new features requiring it. The slower turning in CMBB required the use of pathfinding in a new place. Overall I don't find this new feature to be worth the hassle. CMBO was fine and now we don't only have crawling rotates for some vehicles but also a new pathfinding mess.
demoss
Again, note that for turns greater than about 100 degrees (again, exact cut-off seems to vary with speed), you don’t need to worry about this bug at all – at this point, the TacAI will recognize that it can’t possibly make the turn, and automatically stop and rotate when it hits the waypoint rather than turn the vehicle at speed, so there will be no change in facing no matter how short the next movement leg is. Negative. I've observed similar behavior (vehicles widening their turns & driving off road, when their paths as ordered remained on the road at all times) with 135-degree turns.
YankeeDog
Demoss - Hmmm. I will have to check that out. I suspect it may have something to do with the vehicle type. That is, different vehicles may start to rotate (as opposed to swing wide and turn at speed) at different speed and turn angle "cut-off" points. It will take further testing with a variety of vehicle types to know for sure, though. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers, YD
Dschugaschwili
The vehicle type is most certainly a factor here. Watching a Puma, a Panther and a Tiger drive the same path shows large differences how they take their turns, especially narrow ones.
