Ah, evidently a man of excellent taste.

I first met "The Defence of Duffer's Drift" when a pal of mine was issued with a copy when he did a course at the Junior Division, the Staff College, Camberley (as it then was).

I believe it is still on the USMC Commandant's reading list. I do not think it will be out of date until people stop using weapons firing conoidal bullets on the battlefield, and possibly not even then.

I just read it and Iam very impressed. This is a great read. I like the way he points out the mistakes and how he leads you to the right solution.

There is a modern version but I forget the name.

Something like "The Defense of Hill 317." Duffer's was required reading in every unit I was in. One LT. complained because it was the only book he ever had to read all the way through.

Ah, good read that one. Admittley Combat Mission does teach you some things, because after reading his first two or three failures I knew where he would eventually take position.

Awesome, "The Defence of Duffer's Drift" is a bloody ripper. I've read a lot of general Boer War material in my time, loved it. It felt like looking at a mini version of the 'battle' of Colenso except without Buller being able to stuff it up!
