Der Kuenstler
Is there a way to place a roadblock so that a bridge is completely blocked? (AFVs can't go around) I don't think it can be done with one roadblock, can it?
Sergei
If you are in the map editor, you can first put a roadblock into an empty square, then put a bridge to its place. That way the roadblock is on the bridge. Same with mines, barb etc.
Der Kuenstler
What about during a scenario setup phase, defending with roadblocks provided?
Sergei
Might be harder, depends on the map. But you can at least make it complicated to get past, making his forces vulnerable to fire.
Brent Pollock
How thoroughly have you tested this? I just ran a quick one and had a truck drive right through the roadblock that is "on" the bridge (it actually stretches below it, too, right down to the water). It didn't matter if I had the roadblock parallel or perpendicular to the bridge - trucks moved right through them. They were also allowable placement positions for the truck during set up. Big or little bridge, didn't matter. I think it looks like the roadblock is there, but the game engine ignores it for movement purposes. Sergei
Oh, really? Well thanks for informing us. I assumed it'd work, because at least anti-tank mines work as expected on bridges. Oh well, bugger...
Ace Pilot
I've been able to block the entrance to a bridge with a single roadblock in one scenario. It may be dependent upon the terrain around the end of the bridge. In the scenario where I was able to do it, the banks of the river were very steep.
Brent Pollock
The road links of a bridge are less of a problem to road block but might still have some leakiness. We'd hoped that Sergei had found a way to block the bridge proper and prevent these leaks, which turns out not to be so.
Brent Pollock
So the AFVs can't cross to support the infantry (which can cross the roadblock).
Brent Pollock
Not if the LOS from the other bank is hindered (bends in the road, trees/buildings/hills and suchlike).
