Allied flame units: Why greater range than Axis?

Recommended Posts

I've been curious about this since CMBO:

Why is it that most Allied flame units have a greater range than Axis ones?

I did a search, but nothing came up.

Was it an design issue? Doctrine issue? A little of both? Neither?

Been having fun with the Russian flame units. They got some pretty good range:

Yes, we all love the smell of napalm in the morning. Well, unless you're on the receiving end!

Hans, do you smell something?

D'oh!

Time to exit the AO!

The 30m limit on the German FT is realistic.

The 2 portable FT produced in highest numbers by the Germans (schwerer Flammenwerfer 41 / heavy FT 41 and Einstoßflammenwerfer 46 / one shot FT 46) both had a max. range of 30m. Prototypes of FT with longer range were build, but not used in combat AFAIK.

Nevertheless there is one FT with a range of 50m. It is the Abwehrflammenwerfer 42 (defence FT 42). It was not portable and was dug in at fortified positions. Ignition was done by the FTs victim through touching of strechted wire. 50000 were build after 42 and.....it is not in CMBB

I have no info about the ranges of allied FT.

Exact.

It was a common defense weapon in Italy too ! I hope it will be in CMAK.

I would well be wrong though...

At least for the German part you are not wrong. They used Nitrogen and Hydrogen for the different FT's
